@Wherein's Painting Sharing Contest Second Stage Second Entry: Always Smiling...

Hi everyone! Sharing with you today my second entry for the @Wherein art contest. This drawing was inspired from a photo of an old woman outdoors enjoying herself. There is a lot of personality and happiness in her face that I wanted to capture.

I started of with a very rough sketch placing down the darker tones in the piece. They are usually around the eyes, under the nose & chin as a sun above someone's head would cast shadows in those areas.

I then used a darker pen to further define the darkest tones.

I start to use pencil to create the lighter tones in this piece. I wanted the drawing to have a lot of energy so I drew the pencil and pen marks fast while also maintaining relative accuracy.
