“If we don’t have art, our life will be boring” “Do not do your passion for them, but to yourself” Have you ever tried doing something that you love but didn’t because of other people’s negative criticisms or because you’re afraid of what might people think about you for refusing to behave in accordance to societal standards? Fear not, because a woman from Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines might just be the reason for you to continue pursuing your passion.

Meet my friend, Dollymie Buno, 21, a college student who defies all negative criticisms and continues her passion for painting. Despite having many negative comments aimed at her she was able to overcome it, against all odds.

Dolly learned everything by practicing, not giving up on it, and is still passionately hungry for improvements. She started doing art because it made her happy and was also inspired by other professional artists and their artworks. She told me that she is making art, not for clout, fame, and money but for her to inspire others to do art and do what they love. She successfully managed to overcome criticisms and still has one goal in mind: to paint on any medium canvas.

Dolly uttered, “For me, Art is life. Because if we don't have art, our life will be boring. All of us have art. All in the surroundings has an art. We can see art everywhere. We can make art by creating nature itself into an amazing masterpiece.” If you love doing something, there’s just no reason to give up on it. She then stated that one should not give up on doing one passion.

The process:

She is using the grid method to achieve the outline.

Then she first shades the eyes, eyebrow, and nose using charcoal powder.

After that is shading the mouth using the dry brush technique.

Next, is the shading of the face's skin tone.

For the hair, she used an empty ballpoint pen, this is what we called the indenting technique. In shading the hair, she used charcoal powder and a charcoal pencil. Then for making the hair strands more realistic she used graphite. Also, glue stick for hair highlights.

For the make-up highlights, she used a Sakura White Jelly roll pen.

Ultimately, there will be people who will bring you down and people who will give negative criticisms of you. What's important is you must continue to do what you love and do not settle for less, for it enables you to explore and do more. “Do not do your passion for them, but to yourself.”

Special thanks to my friend Dolly Buno for letting me use her pictures in order to make this entry successful.
