Visiting a friend, I saw that he had several terrariums with insects at home. In one of them he had placed a praying mantis, or blowpipe mantis, as we call them in Venezuela. I asked him if I could photograph it and he agreed. Here I share the results.

The 5 selected close-ups

In this shot I took it from above, it was resting on a branch, with its back to me. You can see its swollen belly and the secondary wings, which are between orange and pink in colour.

I then proceeded to lift the lid of the terrarium and look for the best opportunity with the model. The fact is that it is a female due to the swollen belly. It measures about three centimeters in length, and has a combination of beautiful greens all over its body.

This time Google Lens did not help me identify the species. I only found the family: "Mantidae" and the genus, which is "Mantis." Of which there are many species and varieties.

You can see that the main wings also have a dark wine-colored hue towards the center. And the different segments of its abdomen. As a model it behaved very well, it moved very little and remained still for a while. It's a pity that the light was poor and my camera didn't have a high magnification.

I love this shot, I gave it a square format to maximize the focus. The colors of the secondary wings stand out, but it didn't want to open them. Editing with Lightroom was very simple, livening up the colors and cropping some shots.
