For all of us, the pressure is immense - coming from society and the media - about how the holiday season should unfold and how we should behave (cheerful, smiling, kind). All of this, combined with gift shopping, attending office parties (believe me, some people dread such obligations), planning vacations, and other similar activities, brings a significant amount of stress. Yet the only thing we truly want is to be with our loved ones and to be ourselves, free from pressure and pretense.
And although the city where I live doesn’t quite reflect the spirit of the upcoming bright Christian holiday, as the decorations are rather sparse, I create my own cozy atmosphere at home. Why is this important to me? So I can enjoy this month of the year in the way I imagine it.
When I come home and see the decorations, I feel like I’m in my own little fairytale, and even if my day hasn’t been the best, the coziness I’ve created definitely lifts my spirits. This way, every day becomes a small celebration that I allow into my home.
I don’t follow the societal rule that a new ornament has to be bought every year. To make things easier, my closest friends and I agree on a gift limit: no more than 10 leva (5 euros), and it has to be something useful. This way, there’s no pressure or waste, which helps keep the holidays stress-free!
Because the holidays are about celebrating life - but in our own way 🎄 🎀⭐
