AT THE END OF THE MORNING
It was at the end of the morning; perhaps
the wind, with its cloak of mercy,
had helped him: a sparrow
appeared on the windowsill.
Something, stone or mountain,
had fallen upon him: his entire body
covered in blood, only his
dim eyes still plead.
It was not just the small being
that, in another suspended gaze,
suffered: life itself
fought to deny death.
It could not – and so much
had it been wished by the one who had fixed
their eyes on the fragile image of the world
in agony. Far from the light where it was born.
