The feminine beauty ideology is a socially constructed opinion that one of a woman’s most important assets is her attractiveness and is something all women should strive to achieve and maintain, in other words ; women should try to obtain these ideology in other to be considered beautiful by societal standards. These standards set by the society we live in, have tremendously influenced the styles and trends we are drawn to, which have also influenced a lot of women across the world in several ways .
Certainly, we aspire to look the best we can, but what could be the best for you may not be the same for others. Society has a set idea of what is and isn’t attractive that varies between time periods, and across different social and cultural communities, we often gloss over the fact that perceptions of “beauty” are often influenced and even reinforced by what the majority thinks.
skin colour , body shape, often shapes a big part of our identity, Not only do people often use it as a sign post for one’s race or ethnicity, some have used it to read into the lives people supposedly lead. Some see it as flaws, some see it as a fault.
But these shouldn’t be it, beauty shouldn’t be judged by just physical appearance and one shouldn’t feel less of themselves because of some societal standards, we should live in those days when African perceived beauty as inner virtue and morality. Those days beauty is not only wailed by physical attractiveness but by good values and manners. As the Igbo would say .... “ Ezigbo Akwa bu Mma Nwabyi . And the Yoruba would say “Iwalewa” character is beauty.
As much as we pay attention to our looks we women should also pay attention to our values , our qualities and being ourselves.
