The first and huge step should be finding a community which you relates with in terms of passion and request to join, could be pictorial, music, travels, etc. The second most basic step in no particular order would be to 'embed' yourself with the contests going around here and that should really give you a boost as far as audience is concerned on your posts.

With the above two moves, am pretty sure you'd be ready to grind the steem world. Might not mention how good to be consistent you needs as that comes automatically with the posting intervals being your own so long as they are fixed.

Last but not the list, check out several communities that are really helping new comers, not remembering the names but seeing you are from Nigeria which has a good ground cover here, make a move to the country representatives and greeters are they'd set you on extra steps to keep your ground.
