Hello, dear Steemians✋🏼
Today, I would like to give you information about Göbeklitepe, from which we have obtained very important information about the history of humanity.
Göbeklitepe is located 18 km northeast of Şanlıurfa, Turkey. What makes Göbeklitepe so important is that it is the oldest cult center in the world. Göbeklitepe was first discovered by chance in 1995 by the German archaeologist Klaus Schmidt. Göbeklitepe, which turned out to be built 12000 thousand years ago, is therefore on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
During another archaeological excavation work in Turkey, Schmidt sees a statue he has never seen before. This statue was found by the owner of the Göbeklitepe land and handed it over to the museum. Schmidt, who understands that this statue is quite old, had it tested. After the test, he finds that the statue belongs to 9500 BC. On top of that, Schmidt wants to see Göbeklitepe. Schmidt, who sees Göbeklitepe, realizes that this is not a natural hill and demands an archaeological excavation. Schmidt, who started excavations at first with his own means, found an embossed structure, and then the Göbekli Tepe archaeological excavation officially started.
This discovery would undoubtedly revolutionize what is known about World history. As I mentioned above, Göbeklitepe dates back to around 9500 BC. In other words, these dates are very close to the end dates of the Ice Age and Stone Age. The oldest known building before Göbeklitepe is 7000 years older than Stonehenge in England.
Göbeklitepe consists of temples and settlement areas in a wide area. In these temples, human and animal figures are carved on the walls. In addition to this, there was also the roof of the walls, the length of which varied from 3 to 6 meters. Considering the technology about 10 thousand years ago, it can be estimated how difficult it is to place these roofs. Undoubtedly, the people who built these structures were quite intelligent, perhaps the first engineers and architects in history.
After the discovery of Göbeklitepe, the accuracy of a known information about human history began to be questioned. It was believed that after people started farming, they settled down and later started to believe in religions. However, this was not the case in Göbeklitepe. The people who built Göbeklitepe were not farming, but they were settled. We can also see that they adopted the religion because they built temples. These inferences were undoubtedly groundbreaking for the science of archeology.
Excavations, which can be considered new, have revealed a lot of new information. Approximately 20% of Göbeklitepe excavations have been completed. Even so much excavation has revealed a lot of information. It is obvious that many mysteries will be revealed when the excavations are completed.
For now, I'm wrapping up my post here.

Wonderful! I recently finished a book you might like: The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow (published 2021). It discusses in length just what you mentioned about complex social organizations (“civilization”) being active many centuries before agriculture.
Thank you!
