Looking for an alternative to the Dracula's Castle which you and many many others visited already? Here it is - Rasnov Fortress, situated in Transylvania - the most authentic part of Romania if you ask me, especially in terms of architecture.

A scenic drive from Brasov, surrounded by the Carpathian mountains, dotted with ski resorts including the ever popular Boiana Brasov, takes you to Rasnov. Free parking with plenty of spaces is available at the bottom of the hill. So, just leave the car here and head towards the fortress at your own pace.

Tickets are easily purchased at the main entrance, no need to prebook in advance. The stunning views from this medieval castle over the evergreen pine trees shortly follow.

There is a local crafts market here where tourists can purchase handmade souvenirs and clothing.

The traditional Romanian blouse is made by hand, out of fine linen or cotton threads and used to be a mandatory garment in every household throughout the country. It is widely regarded as a symbol of Romanian identity and is a true work of art. I personally love the exquisite embroideries with all the colours and tiny little details made with silk threads on the chest and arms. I think the blouse makes a pretty outfit for a summer evening and guarantees you will stand out of the crowd wearing one once back at your home country.
