Trip to Levoča valley

Hi

It’s another warm summer day, perfect for being near water. Especially if you have kids with you who love the water. I thought it would be a great idea. Let’s go somewhere to cool off. We have a swimming pool in the city, but I wanted to combine our time by the water with a trip. In the morning, I packed our things, we got into the car, and we set off.

A little outside the historical center of Levoča lies the sports and recreational area of Levočská Dolina. There’s a bike path from the city, and along the way, we met several cyclists and skaters. It’s great that locals have such an opportunity to get active. A few minutes later, I parked the car at the parking lot near the Kováčova vila Reservoir.

Levočská Dolina is a busy place not only in summer but also in winter, as there are ski lifts here. In the summer, you can swim in this reservoir or in a natural bio pool. There are also plenty of hiking trails, which I’ll guide you through some other time. For now, let’s go back to the reservoir.

We paid the entrance fee, and my kids immediately ran to the playground. This wooden ship dominates it. I loved playing pirates when I was little too. At least I know where the kids got it from. By the way, visiting the Caribbean is one of my travel dreams. For now, Levočská Dolina will have to do. You’ll have to wait a bit for my posts about the Caribbean.

This multi-purpose reservoir is really versatile. Besides relaxing and sunbathing, you can rent a paddle boat and go for a ride on the reservoir. Or you can rent a fishing rod and try to catch lunch or dinner. I would take a boat ride, but I’m alone with two small children. I don’t want to risk one of them falling into the water.

Instead, we’re going to cool off in the water. It’s shallow near the shore, which is perfect for us.

My kids didn’t yet have the courage to try this attraction, though they really liked it from a distance. Maybe next year, they’ll try to make it at least partway. I’d go for it right away.

Around the area, there’s an educational trail called the Frog Path. Of course, we’re going to walk it. The path describes these amphibians and their lives.

This path was created thanks to an effort to protect frogs that migrated across this road each year to reach the reservoir and back. Many lost their lives in the process. Barriers and underpasses were built to allow as many frogs as possible to cross safely.

I love nature, and I support such efforts to protect it. I’m also glad that people here can learn something about frogs and their lives. So, besides sports and relaxation, Levočská Dolina also offers cultural and educational activities.

Thank you
