The conscious mind may be compared to a fountain playing in the sun and falling back into the great subterranean pool of subconscious from which it rises. - Sigmund Freud
Good morning Steemit! Today I want to talk about dreams. I've always been fascinated by them, from how our subconscious mind works to what we actually dream about and where it comes from. I've always been interested in Psychology and lately I've been paying more attention to my dreams, not that I know if they really mean anything and usually just head to Google to try and make some sense of them lol. I find it interesting nevertheless.
I have random dreams I guess you could call them. Although for a while now they've revolved around murder and escaping from murderous situations. The night before last I dreamt that I was in the car with my partner, he got out to go into the petrol garage whilst I waited. As quick as a flash another man jumped in and held a gun to my head and led me into the garage where my partner and two other store workers were. I don't recall if there was any noise, I remember the look of terror in everyone's eyes and out of nowhere I grabbed this big silver sharp knife and started stabbing the man that had the gun to my head and killed him. I shouted to my partner "come on, let's go" and we ran back towards the car and drove off.
We drove to a train station and somehow this train would take me back to England (I believe the dream was set in South Africa). I was reluctant to go and leave him, he said he would come with me but in the dream I didn't believe that he would come and that he was just saying that in a ploy to get me on the train. To my surprise he did get on the train, but I didn't and the train started pulling away from the platform, I was stuck by myself. I ran down the street and hopped on a bus, I asked the girl next to me where it goes and she said California! I panicked and got off the bus and was just wondering down the street feeling helpless. The train that left was the last one, though I don't know why I didn't think to just go back the next day haha!
I came across a small looking terraced house and decided to go in. I went upstairs and my late grandfather was there (my dad's father), he passed about 6 years ago. He threw his arms around me and said how wonderful it was to see me again. I remember him looking so well, sporting a brown leather jacket. I don't actually know if he ever owned one but that detail of the dream seems to stick in my mind, I'll have to ask my dad. There was was a woman in the house and she looked like my late Great Nan (my mum's, mum's, mum if that makes sense). She was in my life for the first 5 years until she passed, I do remember her. It turned out that it was actually the anniversary of her death the morning that I woke up from this dream! It appeared the two of them were something of an item, or companions as my Grandad would kiss her on the cheek and hug her (in the dream) so that was nice to see, I remember being surprised in the dream though haha! Maybe they have found each other or something lol. After that, I woke up.
Last night my dream was a bit different. It felt like I had multiple dreams but I can't remember them all. I don't know about you but sometimes it's only later on in the day that I remember dreams. It's like a light switch comes on and I remember. The only part of my dream that I seem to remember (unfortunately) is giving birth on the kitchen floor to a deceased fetus and my mum stitching me with plasters whilst on the phone to the paramedics... I have no idea where that must of come from, the only thing that it could possibly be is that I was watching Nashville (for the second time lol) last night before bed and one of the characters found out she was pregnant so that's probably where that came from, I'm not sure about the deceased part, that was quite disturbing. Perhaps there's symbolism in there somewhere.
Usually my dreams are about making escapes from murderers that want to kill me or being surrounded by snakes just laying around (literally everywhere, walls, floors, furniture etc) and me not wanting to step on them fearful that they may bite. I go to bed wondering what I'm in for haha!! "Next on Lauren's subconscious..." Lol.
Anyway, I thought I would write it down before I forget and try and make sense of it I suppose. How about you? What do you dream about? Do you interpret your dreams?
All men whilst they are awake are in one common world, but each of them, when he is asleep, is in a world of his own. - Plutarch
Until next time... ❤️❤️❤️
I’m the opposite - I remember my dream for about 5 minutes after I wake up and then it’s gone for ever.
You seem to dream about death a lot. Have you considered watching Bluey or something before going to sleep?

Haha, it's crazy isn't it! I think I might start writing them down.
I know, not really sure why, be interesting to research it. I've never watched Bluey but I won't knock it until I've tried it, I guess 😂 But I do always put Friends on before bed, perhaps I should switch it up a bit 😄

Perhaps your subconscious has discovered an underlying violence in Friends that nobody else has noticed yet 🤔
Bluey's very entertaining. It can be found on CBeebies 😆
