My latest drawing using a graphite stick.

It is part of my guide and review for drawing tools, aimed for realism.

A graphite stick is versatile.
You can use the side of the stick for covering large areas quickly, and smooth them.
In addition, you can use the tip of the stick for fine details.

Graphite sticks come in many shapes (cylindrical, rectangle, etc.), but I prefer a pencil-shape.
A pencil shape graphite stick gives me more control, and it is covered with a thin plastic layer, which keeps my hand clean.

That said, I do prefer regular wooden pencils for realistic drawing.

Faber-Castell Goldfaber

They are not as great as Faber-Castell 9000, but still quite good and affordable.

Prismacolor Turquoise
These require a gentle touch, and therefore less recommended for beginners.

Derwent Graphic
Quite smooth and good for beginners. I like them for sketches, not for super realistic drawings.

Lyra Rembrandt Art Design
These too I prefer for sketches, and not super realistic drawings.

Thank you very much.

Pleasure :)

I love this kind of hair, when doing portrait using pencil this is a challenge how to create it, but graphite sticks seems to be a good tool to create the basis and then to build up some texture of hair.

I think for people who do not have much experience to see so many brands can confuse when deciding what is the best to use. But from your example it is noticeable that the drawing is not only drawing the end result differs depending on what you are using.

Thank you Ran, it is always great to see and learn from your :)

I agree about the many brands. The key is to learn and practice. The tools are less important. It is a personal preference.
That said, I love art supply :o)

I think with the time we gather quite a good collection of Art materials, I never thought that I do the same, but slowly the amount of them need now couple of shelves to accommodate them.

Yeah. I have some in drawers, some in a cupboard. The more, the better.
Lucky for me, I get a lot of materials for testing, reviewing and as an "ambassador" :o)
