My latest drawing (with colors).
There are 4 color attributes.
Hue
The color name.
Meaning pink, yellow, brown, blue, etc.
Brightness Value
How dark or light it is.
This is the most important.
Saturation
How rich and vivid the color is, or how dull and gray it is.
This is super important too.
Temperature
How cool or warm the color is.
While you can play with hue and temperature, when painting realism, you should be accurate with values and saturation.
Nature is quite "gray".
For realism, you should learn how to mix colors and how to make them less saturated.
A quick way to do it is to mix a tiny bit of the opposite color in the color wheel.
To desaturate red, add a bit of green.
To desaturate blue, add a bit of orange.
To desaturate yellow, add a bit of purple.
And vice versa.
Another way is to add white, brown, black or gray to the mixture to desaturate it.
With practice (brush mileage), you will know how to mix colors, depending on the pigments you use.
Here is my latest drawing with markers and colored pencils, again.
