A new drawing from my guide for drawing depth.

Overlapping is one of the most powerful ways to add a sense of depth to your drawings (or paintings).

When an object covers part of another object, the viewer translate that the object is in front of the object it covers.

So, instead of drawing two objects side by side, draw one that overlaps the other.

If you like drawing trees, like the examples below, feel free to visit my tree drawing guide.

Even when you draw something simple, like a flower, make sure the petals overlap each other.

And while you are at it, add some foreshortening.

Try to not draw objects ordered by size or any other pattern.

Scatter them in space, and make them overlap.

It is recommended for landscape too.

Remember:
Your drawing-paper is flat, there is no depth in it. The idea is to use methods and techniques to create the illusion of depth.

Here is my overlapping drawing again.
