HI Steemians!
today has been a looong day! A day I feel started a few days ago.
I´m not someone who ever found my Christmas spirit. I understand it´s important for others so I just try to go along with it.
A couple of years ago my mother has become more and more incapacitated as she has a neurodegenerative disease and now I find myself doing it for her sake. I guess that if I had children I´d do it for them.
I love cooking and being creative with food but having to do a traditional British meal following exact recipes is not really my idea of pleasure in the kitchen, but I did it and managed to get some joy from it.
Today I cooked for my mother and my mother in law who are both British and living in Spain for over 50 years, but they STILL love their Christmas lunch.
Cooking and preparing for the meal was a task of a few days... roast filled chicken, aromatic red cabbage, roast veggies, gravy, home made truffles, minced pies and brandy butter, Christmas stollen with marzipan, etc etc...
The gathering today was small because of Covid precautions. We were able to eat on the terrace in a relatively warm day 16ºc or even 18ºc at its peak. So its good to be out in the open air.
I think they all really enjoyed the meal !
I remembered this painting I did back in 2011. A friend of mine has it in England, she is a wonderful cook who inspires me.

That sounds very appetizing! I can understand you hectic time around Christmas preparation but it is always good to sit down at the end with family and just enjoy the rest of the day.

Esa vasija me recuerda a la construían con barro los indígenas americanos, en algunas partes las usaron para meter los huesos de sus muertos para que descansaran en paz.
En mi familia se conservan algunas de arcilla; se llenan de agua para que se conserven fresca y fría. Ahora que detallo tu obra me recuerda que tienen mucha simbología y sostenidas en esas manos adquieren una dimensión humana infinita. Hermoso cuadro.

If I do not cook at least once a day, I feel either lost or on vacation. If it’s the latter, I find ways to cook. This summer I visited my mother and uncle in Florida. Just off the plane I stopped in the grocery store and picked up ingredients for a roast chicken dinner. Then to their apartment with hugs and preheating the oven. Cooking is the one creative expression that never fails me, no matter how mediocre the outcome. Comfort cooking. The best meals are made with love for love. Impossible not to experience joy. You did it!
