Achieving success and taking risks are two mutually dependent event. That is, it takes the act of taking daring and risky steps in order to blaze the trail. If you are scared of taking risks, then you are not prepared for success in the first place. Nothing excludes one from success like not taking risks. In fact, the whole world and even life itself is ladened with so much risks that if you try to exclude yourself from them, it will lead you straight into many other forms of risks - even the bigger ones. So if success is what you want, then you should welcome risks.
Before Neil Armstrong landed on the moon with his crew members of Apollo II, the first attempt to get humans to moon met with catastrophe just after taking up. In fact, the first Apollo mission was a total failure, killing all the crew members at a go. This would have easily discouraged the subsequent missions to space because of the last experience. However, Neill Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin refused to allow it to deter them from taking the risk of embarking on this moon exploration. Well, they took the trip and it made history for humankind.
By the time they undertook the trip, it became a milestone achievement for the entire humanity even though it may have looked like a small step from a man. If he had not taken the risks with his teammates, they would not have written their names on the sands of time. As a matter of fact, you cannot talk about astro travels without making reference to Neil Armstrong. This goes to prove that, if you will not let fear of taking risks to stop you, then you are on your way to success. If you think that success will be handed over to you without any input from you, then think again. If you must hit your target, then you have to be willing to take steps without fear.
Why a lot of people do not see themselves taking risks is simply because they are scared of what the results will be. It is obvious that people are normally scared of what they have not tried in the past or what the perceive as new. But all these should not stop the right actions from being taken. If you can bear the results and consequences of an action, then nothing is stopping you from taking the action. If you weigh the worst case scenario and you see that it is something you can bear, then go ahead and take it. You will be surprised that what you feared about taking the risk may not even happen.
However, there are things you need to have in mind in relation to taking risks. Firstly, risks should be logical and wise. That is, you do not just do insane things and call it risks. In order for risks to be worthwhile, they have to be calculated and taken wisely. That you are advised to take risks does not mean that you should put yourself into harm just for you to prove a point that may not even exist. Just to let you know; taking risks and doing unwise things are two different things. In the case of Neil Armstrong that I cited earlier, before they embarked on the mission to moon, they had to understudy the reason why the first mission went into flames and then know how to calculate their actions accordingly.
In addition to taking logical risks, you have to also try to acquire extensive knowledge about what you want to do. The more knowledgeable you are about a thing, the easier it will be for you to take actions relating to it. When you take time to reflect on the actions you took before you gained knowledge and the actions you took after acquiring knowledge, you will agree with me that the latter is easier. This goes to prove that knowledge actually makes actions and risks easier. Before you take actions or any step at all, try to gain knowledge about what want to do; this can save you from taking a wrong step.
While taking risks, you should remove your mind from failure and focus more on what you want to achieve. What you constantly think on will determine your actions. If you always think of failure while taking any step, then success may be far. But if you think of success, then it will be achievable.
