The Emergence of Success

A few years back, one of my mentors shared with us his success story and how he moved from grass to grace. He told us the numerous hurdles he had to pass through, the sacrifices he made, the actions he took, the discipline, determination, commitment, etc. Even when his business suffered a major setback, he did not give up, rather he re-strategized gave it another shot. When he was ending his speech, he made a statement which I find very insightful, he said "no one achieves success by mere luck but by work." These statement made me to understand that there are prices that one needs to pay for them to get what they want.

If you wait for when success will be delivered to you without you taking obvious steps, you will wait eternally in vain. If you want something, then you must prove that you want it by fulfilling certain conditions. If the people that have gotten certain results share with you the sacrifices they made, you will understand that it was never easy but was necessary. It is the unpleasant story of what they did that lead to the pleasant glory of the success they are experiencing now. When you start to put actions towards your dreams for example, it may look very challenging, but it is just like the planting phase of your life. If you will not give up, then the harvest phase will come.

There is usually a scar to show for the emergence of the stars you see in people. I was listening to a very renowned Olympic runner who won a lot of gold medals and other awards during his interview. He explained the kind of sacrifices he had put in to achieve what he has. You may just be seeing the results but they were not gifted, rather they were products of intense and hard labour. He revealed that he used to run for kilometres during his training and also trained with both humans and with his pet Cheetah, which is known for incredible speed and the fastest land animal. It is not surprising how he worked himself up to becoming the fastest human.

It does not matter the kind of dream that you have, what matters is that you will have to take responsibility for it to be achieved. A dream may seem too big but it is achievable by the work that you have put into it. You do not just profess success, rather you earn it. Before you envy someone's success, try to find out what they have done. You will be surprised how many sleepless nights were sacrificed in order for them to achieve it. Trust me, every good thing that you need will place the responsibility of action on you. Life may be fair, but it will not just give you want you want because you desire it, but you have to take the delivery of it by your actions.

If you are a student for example and you want to have a good result in school, you should know that it does not answer to luck. You will need to commit to extensive study of your books and other resource materials. In fact, you have to be some steps ahead of the other students. The grade you want will determine what you have to put in in terms of how serious you will be with your studies. When you have paid the price and fulfilled all the requirements for success, then you will earn it. It is the proper preparations that you do that will give you the great performance that you need.

For success to be achieved, you need to understand one thing - do not wait for it, rather make it work. You cannot live your life on the possibility of luck and expect to experience great success. Even if you expect luck to happen to you, you should not fold your hands and wait for it. It is far better for the luck to meet you while you are already making conscious and dedicated efforts to achieve success. Always have in mind that it is the price you pay in life that will determine the prize you take out of life.
