This story is based on real scam that was happening few years back in Kolkata. Later we came to know that not only Kolkata, similar scams happened in many cities and small towns from states like west bengal, bihar, orissa, uttar pradesh etc.
My cousin brother was a victim of this scam. His father was a government employee. In those days, the employees used to receive their salary by cheque. These used to be bearer cheque - that means the bank cashier would hand-over the money to the person carrying the cheque.
My cousin came out from the bank with the money, around 18,000 INR with him. He was walking towards the bus stop. Suddenly he saw a person approaching other pedestrians asking if they have seen a bag with 30,000 rupees in it. He was saying that he lost that bag in this area when he was having tea. That man also approached my cousin and tells the same story.
In the next crossing, another person approached my cousin and told that he found a bag in a tea shop and asked if that bag belong to my cousin. My cousin got greedy and told, "yes, it is mine". The con man then asked what was inside? My cousin told that 30,000 rupees was inside. Then the con man asked about the color of that bag. My cousin told black.
Now, the con man takes out a pink bag, opened it, and there was bundles of currency note seen. The con man took out one and its a bundle of 100 rs note. There was 3 such bundles. Now my cousin trying to convince him that the currency bag belongs to him, he forgot the real color. The con man look suspicious. Then the con man suddenly gave a proposal. He said "Look brother, I know this bag is not yours. It is not mine either. Why don't we divide the money between us?" My cousin agreed. The con man then said "if we take out the money and start dividing that here in open road, people will be suspicious and might call police. So, you give me 15,000 rupees and take this bag with you". My cousin agreed.
When he came back from bank excited, he opened the pink bag. There is indeed 3 bundles. Each with two hundred rupees note at both end, and 998 pieces of news-paper cut in 100 rupees' note-size in between.
Now we have 600 rupees and a pink bag - for 15000.

Greetings friend @sampu
Interesting way of scamming people, using a lost previous as a hook so that others are tempted to fall for it, thieves always look for ways to harm others auqnue greed also played a part in this case.
Thank you for your entry to the contest.
