Cracking Codes in an Unconventional Way!

in hive-185836 •  11 months ago  (edited)

I thought of writing this post in Steem Dev, but since I'm no developer, I refrained from doing so. The rules clearly state that:

Only posts related to Steemit development can be shared in this community.

This community is a collaborative community for all steemit developers.

Ever since I joined this platform, I have been very much involved in understanding how it works. While I don't fully understand how coding works, I have been inquisitive and asking questions for my understanding. And I appreciate all the developers, steemchiller, the-gorilla, @moecki (thank you additionally for supporting new bloggers like me), and many others who have been working in any capacity to keep this chain up and working along with the witnesses.

The Codes that I cracked understood uptil now:

Why Am I Not Getting The Notification of my Mentions???

Those who know me are aware that I started with Wox, participating in challenges by @xpilar. I won a few, especially the digital art ones. Initially, I didn't understand much about the full dynamics. One day, I saw a whopping 15 Steems in my wallet from Xpilar. Intrigued, I visited his blog and found a post where I was mentioned as the first winner. Oh boy, did it feel good! The Steem prize of 15 Steems added to the joy. I hadn't felt that good since my university days when I had won a gold medal for distinction. (Yes, I did 🫣).

Anyways, I thankfully accepted the prize and mentioned that I didn't receive any notification. Xpilar took note, but somehow, it happened again. I had won a second prize and only got to know after 3 days. Me, being me, again approached Xpilar, stating that I didn't get the mention. And this time, he tracked the issue. Below is the screenshot of our conversation from more than a month ago. Thankfully, Xpilar doesn't reply very often; otherwise, I wouldn't be able to track this down so easily. Thank you so much for responding to my silly inquiries.

I will still consider myself a part of this cracking. 😆 Since then, I always get a notification of his mention. And I do know that when he mentions, it's totally worth it.

Then, through further exploration, I discovered that mentions don't always work due to threshold issues and other factors. But I always receive notifications from Xpilar when participating in my favorite digital art challenge, which makes me happy for the time being.

Why Can't I Underline My Text???

In our schools, there was always an emphasis on underlining important headings, and assuming you know that we are from the era of handwritten notes. So when I started exploring Markdown style (let me tell you, there is not one comprehensive guide out there. I'm thinking about writing one, just when I have understood every aspect fully) I couldn't find any command or code for underline text. So I searched and searched, went through previous posts, Googled, here and there—all in vain. Well after that, I asked @steemchiller the same question. By then, I didn't even know if I was asking the right person or if he would even reply. The last post was some 2 months old. Anyways, I thought, what's the harm!

But, he did reply. And I am really thankful to him for that.

Recent Irregular Behaviour of our Dearest Steemit:

Well, I think everyone who is using Steemit actively knows that there are some issues going on with the platform. Maybe steemit throwing some tantrums. Who knows?

Anyways,

  • Voting anomalies, and
  • delayed or missing comments,

are the two main issues I've encountered on the Steemit platform recently.

Once again, thanks to steemchiller's SteemWorld app, without which most of us would never know what we were missing on the front end. I myself had posted one blog twice, without realising and then praying that the Steem watcher didn't catch me promptly and label me an abuser! Deleted the first one promptly (that promptly was with half an hour delay 😎… thanks to the bug or whatever error that is lingering on an on).

So, here comes the short-term solution while our hardworking developers are definitely working on it.

I have tested and tried this hack multiple times before writing this.

Voting Anomaly:

If you see that your post has been upvoted on SteemWorld but it's not showing even after 24 hours, here's a little hack. You can upvote your post. I know self-voting is generally discouraged, but you can upvote at 1 percent. The missing votes will promptly show. Even then, if you are not comfortable with the idea of self-voting, you can always remove your vote from the post, once the missing vote/ votes appear.

Disclaimer: Well, I really don't know one thing: whether voting anomalies in the blockchain are temporary or permanent. If they show on SteemWorld, does it mean the transaction has been carried out? If that's the case, then maybe we can skip the practice. But for some users, it can bring peace of mind.

Comments Anomaly:

I don't know if you observed or not, but the comment anomalies arise in secondary and tertiary comments. You may get a notification for the comment, but sometimes the comment never appears on the main page or under the parent post. For me, it's a very frustrating situation. One such mention was by a dear friend, @o1eh. He was accused of nominating my post without checking some rules, which was, of course, a very wrong accusation. In my opinion he is such a disciplined curator and blogger when it comes to fair voting. Anyways, he cleared the inquiry in the secondary comment where he had mentioned me. But it never appeared under the parent post. Believe me I went like dozens of times back to that post to see the response of the parent commenter.

I didn't know the hack then, else I would have applied it.
But, now I know. 😎 😉

If you get a notification of a comment under some post, or you get to know it through SteemWorld, and you don't see it under the parent post, just go to that comment and write a reply to that comment. Just type anything, any letter, a dot, number, and see the miracle... the comment will appear out of nowhere.

Now, what to do about that senseless comment that you used as a bait to pull out or unhide the original comment — Simple, DELETE it.

It felt like some bug was jamming the comments just like the malibu stacy head jamming Bart Simpson's drain. 😆

200w (1).gif
The comments and votes appear like water gushing down, after the clogging has been removed from a drainage pipe.

P.S. I would say WAIT, at least an hour or two before applying these hacks. Sometimes it's only a matter of minutes before comments or votes appear. I applied these hacks only, whenever that didn't happen even after 24 hours.

This can also work for those SEC where you need certain number of comments or votes under your Challenge post.

P.S. These are just small, harmless hacks for the time being, while the issues on the frontend are being fixed hopefully. I hope none of you will misuse them.

NOTE: For anyone who doesn't know how to use SteemWorld, here is a breakdown:

Type: https://steemworld.org/@***

Where *** is your user name on steemit. Type it as it is without any caps.

This app is developed by @steemchiller

The "Top 75" outlined in the red box is another development by the same developer under @realrobinhood, which can also be reached directly through this app.

I want to conclude this post with a thank you note for all the developers, witnesses, SRs, the team, contributors (who prefer not to be mentioned ❤️), bloggers, and everyone who makes the experience of blogging on Steemit worthwhile.

Hi darling. I really like that you are curious, that's the way we can constantly learn...

I can give you some answers:

Mentions are never perfect on the platform, in the "notifications" section. That's why I like to look directly at the mentions on Steemworld, absolutely all of them appear there (obviously, unless our username is misspelled.):

soul.png

As for the votes, when they are not reflected on the platform, you can verify that they are reflected in Steemoworld. And again, if they are there, they will become effective... It is not necessary to do anything, just wait for the payment time to expire and you will be able to see the reward received.

When you add and remove votes, your voting action is double reflected, so by voting for yourself, and removing that vote, you will appear with a higher percentage of self-votes.

Sometimes it is necessary to withdraw a vote, and so it must be done. But it is important to know that if it is not very necessary, it is better not to do it if you do not want to alter your statistics.

I tried to give answers to some of your questions, I hope it helps you.

Greetings and blessings :-)

Thank you for your insights and such a thorough reply. All your points are more than valid. Knowing from Hira, you are one of the most experienced users on the chain and also a very hardworking and principled one.

I try to keep the lengths of such posts, which require input, short and leave room for discussion. I think every other commenter under my post and I have highlighted the importance of SteemWorld in the chain of Steemit. It's like an integral part of the chain.
And that is the main point of my post.
We can always access information from there.
But I personally think that this should not be the scenario — Ok for deep statistics, but not for every other thing. The development can be used as an auxiliary source and while it's really helpful, it is still not Steemit itself.

Thank you for clarifying the "votes" scenario. You are right we can skip the practice of self upvoting. For revealing the hidden votes. Again it was mostly for new user, for whom, votes are not only coins but also a source of motivation (assuming, that votes indicate their content has been read).
But yes, we can totally skip it.

Coming to the comments, yes, we can always access them through SteemWorld. However, my point was about the chain of comments, that follows one reply after the other. Sometimes, it is pertinent that both comments are displayed under the parent post for understandability and meaningful dialogue. This situation is very frustrating for me. During the worst of the Steemit issue, the comments didn't appear for days.

I have emphasized the same in one my replies here to denmark guy

Personally, I believe the Steemit interface should function smoothly to maintain user interest

Thank you again for your visit and such detailed reply.
Regards

What I have seen is that these synchronization problems are temporary, normal activity usually returns. I hope so...

There are other interfaces that can be used that are also very good, I imagine that little by little you will be able to explore them 🙂

Unfortunately, things are a little difficult with Steemit at the moment. From my understanding, the problems are due to the new caching functions to reduce the query load. These have often led to problems in the past.
The fact that this function is now causing new problems is of course annoying. Perhaps the parameters need to be fine-tuned a little...

Thank you so much for your remarks.
I hope everything will get back to normal soon.

Perhaps the parameters need to be fine-tuned a little...

I'm not a technical person, but I'm certain this idea has already been part of the suggestions. It might be worth exploring, and additional community discussions could provide valuable insights.

Much regards

Your post is important, I will pinned it in WOX

Thank you for your encouraging remarks! I'm glad you find the post important & pinned it in WOX for reference.

The one who can give us an answer to this is developer @ety001

I can't believe I didn't know that you are a gold medalist. 🫡

And look at you !!! You know more about Steem than a lot of older users.

As long as my activities appear on SteemWorld, I don't bother what's happening on Steemit.com. 😅

As long as my activities appear on SteemWorld, I don't bother what's happening on Steemit.com. 😅

I don't know what people did before this development.
But I'm one of those who need every thing aligned on both places. Specially the comments... It's frustrating when those don't appear under the parent post.

I can't believe I didn't know that you are a gold medalist

What difference does it make 😉. Thank you for the salute though 😆

Understandable.

What difference does it make 😉. Thank you for the salute though 😆

It doesn't make any difference because you are already very impressive. 😀

It sounds like you are very serious about learning this platform. I wish you success in this. It can be seen that you carefully approach what you do.

Oh, and thanks for the compliments😇.

I was really apprehensive about this post.
I wrote it in all honesty and only good intentions. I hope it's not perceived as anything but positive.

thanks for the compliments

You deserve these by all means:)

It's great that you did all this! Some very useful hacks here.

I've always found @steemchiller's SteemWorld to be the most useful resource we have, especially when something is lagging because it seems his code talks directly to the blockchain and doesn't get caught up by issues with the Steemit.com code.

Thank you.

You're right about SteemWorld. Personally, I believe the Steemit interface should function smoothly to maintain user interest. Unfortunately, I introduced a friend recently, and the interface issues were at their worst. I guided her to SteemWorld, but the influx of information can be overwhelming, especially for new users.

Regards

Thank you for sharing, your post will definitely bring changes to the community

Thank you so much.
I see you are a developer yourself.
You may want to give your input...

The current Steemit does have some problems, but I only design for development, so I can't provide more suggestions, but I do have some opinions about its interaction and front-end interface design. I will write a special article in the future. Post to express my opinion

I think someone should be ashamed of the bugs that are happening with our platform right now. This has happened before, but it has not been of such a massive and long-term nature. Does it look like our support service is not working? That would be sad... I'm not talking about further development.

But it looks like we have a new super hero growing up))
I hope that some of the witnesses and developers will see your post ;-)

I think someone should be ashamed of the bugs that are happening with our platform right now

I really don't know who that "someone" is or what the real issue is. I do hope it would should be resolved sooner rather than later.

But it looks like we have a new super hero growing up))

I'm, but, an ordinary user of this platform. ☺️
Thank you for this kind of compliment though.

I don't know this "someone" personally either. We have delegated our powers to the witnesses and expect them to do some work.

Modesty adorns a superhero))
