St John the Baptist in Croydon by @Stef1

Hello my dear Steemians,

While last time when we were visiting Croydon I found couple of beautiful photos that we took last time when we found this old church that was first time found in records of 1347, I was not able to find when exactly it was built. In 1867 it was damaged by fire but then rebuilt in 1870.

When I saw this building it reminded me the tower like in chess figure. What I like there is two colours of the buildings dark and light edges along the corners and the top.

Having the little palms give Mediterranean touch, when just looking at the picture one can think that it must somewhere in warm climate.

These two photos give you a nice view from front, I love that clock tower, it makes me stun how skilful were the architects in old time to create such beauty and why we stopped building like that now.

As always my favourite part is an entrance, I always dream to have a time travel behind such doors.

Hope you enjoyed it :)

...was built in 1867, it was also once destroyed but then rebuilt in 1870.

Thank you, friend!

It is really a big church and a big cathedral in fact. They must have really spent a whole lot of amount on this building to make it look elegant

Nowadays it is also used for some meeting ups and for theology gathering. I am glad that the church is well visited :)

A really magnificent piece of architecture!

Yes, the fine pattern of the stones make it gorgeous :)

I absolutely LOVE historical buildings like that! The embody a lot of energetic depth!

Yes, now all the thoughts of builders are aimed at using materials that, in their opinion, retain heat, but when walls made of such materials crumble under the weight... for example, under the weight of the roof rafter system, then nothing will stop the heat from escaping, and in the end, no walls, no heat, but here, the walls of this castle look warm even in cold colors :)

Often, when I see old buildings here and then the new just build not longer than a decade ago you can see how bad quality of materials and work we have now. It is a shame with such opportunities of equipments and materials it should be better than in the past but I believe everything ends up with saving as much money as possible. I love that combination of colours :)

I love it and wonder too why we no longer build like this. I assume by now we are no longer skilled. It has to be fast and if it collaps it's not that anyone cares.

Many great old buildings are gone to build ugly appartment complexes looking within 5 years as if it's the worst neighbourhood of the city.

Yes, you are right, such profession like stonemason is very rare here, especially for some buildings that we have here are built in sandstone and only such stonemason can restore if it is needed and it is really expensive. I think young people should think about that and maybe to try to get the skills that will be good for both the profession will live and the person will have many job request.

Imagine you want this skill how to get it? If it comes to skills and education it's basically the same: no way you can be/study what you want. No primary school with us can tell you, professiin info markets included, what is needed to be an old fashioned crafrsman, architect, profesdor, archeologist, writer and so on. You need luck, the luck to know someone who does or has the skills.

I hope the last treasures of architecture will be saved and not damaged, set at fire, bombed or be 'brightened' up with gravity or used to make a "statement".

Thanks for sharing this pucture and answering.

I really love how beautiful this building is. So magnificent and at the same time still quite beautiful. They must have really spent a whole lot of amount on this I must confess to bring out the beauty of this building actually

Yes, the old buildings are impressive, many of them now under protection and this way hopefully we will preserve them for our children :)
