The Mille Miglia, one of the most beautiful races in the world [EN]-[IT]

In mid-June in the country where I live, the Mille Miglia passed by. The Mille Miglia is a competition that has two lives, the current one and a previous one.
This began as a sports competition, while today it has become a historical regularity race in stages. There were 24 races that were part of the sports competition, that is, speed races, held between 1927 and 1957. Just in 1957 the Mille Miglia came to a halt because of a bad accident that occurred on the route. In 1957 a car had an accident in which both the driver and co-driver died, but not only that, the car went towards the spectators. Unfortunately, 9 spectators also died of which five were children. The resumption of the competition would have to wait until 1977. The resumption of the Mille Miglia took place by changing the rules of the competition, it was no longer a speed race, but a regularity race in stages.
The name of the race, i.e. "one thousand miles" derives precisely from the length of the route.
So from 1977 the Mille Miglia became a historical regularity race in stages. In the first part of this second revival, participation is limited to cars, produced by 1957 and which had participated in the original race.
The route resembles the shape of the number eight, starting in Brescia and passing through Rome then returning to Brescia.
The initiative came to the minds of 4 Italians from Brescia after Brescia was excluded from the Italian grand prix; Monza was chosen instead.
The 4 friends who conceived and organized the Mille Miglia were Count Aymo Maggi, Count Franco Mazzotti, Renzo Castagneto, and Giovanni Canestrini one of the best known Italian automotive journalists of the time.
The first edition of the Mille Miglia was a huge success and initiated the whole series of subsequent events. The debut was in March 1927 and during the manifeatazione there were several downpours, but the whole of Italy was amazed by this event.
Many well-known people participated in the Mille Miglia, below are some of them: Jeremy Irons (British actor), Paloma Picasso (daughter of the well-known painter), Brian Johnson (AC/DC singer), Bruno Senna (grandson of Ayrton), Mika Hakkinen and Jacky Ickx (former F1 drivers), Claudia Hürtgen (head instructor of the BMW Driving Experience)
As we mentioned in the first phase of this event, the Mille Miglia was a speed race, and among the winners of the first editions we have quite famous drivers: Tazio Nuvolari, Alberto Acscari and Stirling Moss.
The most victorious automakers in this competition were Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, and Merceds Benz.

A metà giugno nel paese dove abito è passata la Mille Miglia. La Mille Miglia è una competizione che ha due vite, quella auttuale ed una precedente.
Questa nasce come competizione sportiva, mentre oggi è diventata una gara di regolarità storica a tappe. Le gare che facevano parte della competizione sportiva, cioè le gare di velocità furono 24, disputate tra il 1927 ed il 1957. Proprio nel 1957 la Mille Miglia si fermó a causa di un brutto incidente avvenuto sul percorso. Nel 1957 un’autovettura ebbe un incidente in cui morirono sia il pilota che il copilota, ma non solo, l’auto andó verso gli spettatori. Purtroppo morirono anche 9 spettatori di cui cinque erano bambini. Per la ripresa della competizione bisognerà aspettare il 1977. La ripresa della Mille Miglia avvenne modificando le regole della competizione, non era più una gara di velocità, ma una gara di regolarità a tappe.
Il nome della gara, cioè “mille miglia” deriva proprio dalla lunghezza del percorso.
Quindi dal 1977 la Mille Miglia diventa una gara di regolarità storica a tappe. Nella prima parte di questa seconda rinascita la partecipazione è limitata alle vetture, prodotte entro il 1957 e che avevano partecipato alla corsa originale.
Il percorso assomiglia alla forma del numero otto, la partenza è a Brescia e passando da Roma si ritorna poi a Brescia.
L’iniziativa venne in mente a 4 italiani di Brescia dopo l’esclusione di Brescia al gran premio d’Italia, al suo posto fu scelta Monza.
I 4 amici che idearono e organizzarono la Mille Miglia furono: il conte Aymo Maggi, il conte Franco Mazzotti, Renzo Castagneto e Giovanni Canestrini uno dei giornalisti italiani più conosciuti del settore automobilistico dell’epoca.
La prima edizione della Mille Miglia ebbe un enorme successo e diede inizió a tutta la serie degli appuntamenti successivi. L’esordio fu nel marzo del 1927 e durante la manifeatazione ci furono diversi scrosci d’acqua, ma l’Italia intera rimase stupita da questa manifestazione.
Alla Mille Miglia hanno partecipato tantissimi personaggi noti, qui di seguito ne elenco alcuni: Jeremy Irons (attore britannico), Paloma Picasso (figlia del noto pittore), Brian Johnson (cantante AC/DC), Bruno Senna (nipote di Ayrton), Mika Hakkinen e Jacky Ickx (ex piloti di F1), Claudia Hürtgen (capo istruttore della BMW Driving Experience)
Come abbiamo detto nella prima fase di questa manifestazione la Mille Miglia era una gara di velocità e tra i vincitori delle prime edizioni abbiamo piloti piuttosto famosi: Tazio Nuvolari, Alberto Acscari e Stirling Moss.
Le case automobilistiche più vittoriose di questa competizione furono: Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Merceds Benz.
