What's the latest news on your situation in the Ukraine with regards to Russia? It's getting a lot of press coverage over here now so I'm interested in hearing your perspective and if anything's changed recently?

We are now living under extreme information pressure. Almost all the news concerns the likelihood of a large-scale war. This is a severe blow to the already underdeveloped economy. Investors are fleeing, government securities are depreciating, inflation has reached a significant level.
Regarding the political situation. You have probably heard that Russia has been negotiating with the United States on spheres of influence. The demands made by Russia were obviously unrealistic. When we in Ukraine learned about these requirements, we immediately realized that these negotiations were made only to pass the time. The very fact that negotiations are underway on Ukraine without Ukraine's participation does not bode well for us.
The fact is that Russia has gathered 90-120 thousand soldiers near our border, there is a lot of military equipment. Now they are sending troops to Belarus, so our northern border is also under threat. In addition, in recent years, Crimea has been transformed into a continuous military base. Preparation is very confident and it does not bode well.
Will there be an attack? I don't think anyone knows that. But after the expected failure of negotiations, Russia is forced to take some action.
We are preparing the army and deploying territorial defense. My colleagues are called to training grounds. But we must understand that it is impossible to compare our and Russia's armies.
We in Ukraine are very grateful for the position of Great Britain. While Germany has in fact sided with Russia, we have only a handful of allies left in the political arena. These are Great Britain, Canada, the USA, the Baltic States and Poland. The rest, although they express support, do so mostly under duress.
I grew up thinking that war was a thing of the past and I still find it hard to believe what is happening.
I hope that not all Russians share the position of their government. But I had to face chauvinism here on Steemit. So it is obvious that a certain part of the population still supports this aggression.
In general, there is no panic in society, but there are no reasons for positive forecasts.

This is very strange. I think that this shows how little it has to do with you as a nation and how much it has to do with geopolitics. I wonder if the existing sanctions have taken a bigger toll on Russia than we are aware of so they feel that they need to do something before they're too weak to.
These are fairly good allies to have although if there is a war, I fear that military intervention will be limited and response will be more sanctions. Which I'm not convinced will work.
It could well be that they fear saying anything in opposition due to potential repercussions.
That's good to hear - our media our painting a picture of everybody planning their routes to air-raid shelters.

I am sure that the sanctions are in place. Business is sensitive to any changes in the rules of the game. But in addition to sanctions, in my opinion, there is another factor - Putin's age. He understands that there is less and less time left to realize his dreams. He has repeatedly said that the greatest catastrophe of his life was the collapse of the Soviet Union. Therefore, he is doing everything to move towards the restoration of the USSR.
We are well aware that in the event of war, no one will fight for us. This is quite understandable. Why should someone die for a foreign country and a foreign nation? Our task is to defend ourselves for so long that this war has become too expensive. And allies can make it even more expensive.
In fact, they are not far from the truth. The war in Ukraine has been going on for 8 years, so our bomb shelters are being systematically inspected and restored throughout this period. They just showed it when they needed to :)

If it comes to it, do you think you'll need to fight? Having a war on the doorstep seems unimaginable and the reason for it incomprehensible. The Ukraine is not a threat to Russia - Even the excuse of NATO being a threat to Russia is ridiculous. Can you imagine NATO deciding "I know, let's invade Russia"?!

Everyone understands the absurdity of Russia's negotiating position. This is politics. They want to leave their traditional sphere of influence. Russia is satisfied with Ukraine as a separate state if it does not pursue an independent policy.
If it comes to war, and I don't even want to think about it, everything will be completely different than in 2014. This time our army is better prepared, we have 400,000 veterans who have the skills to fight, and society is ready to defend itself. We will not be able to stop the Russian army, but we will be able to slow it down and make its offensive very expensive. Society is set on fierce resistance, which means great losses on both sides.
There will be a lot of refugees that no one will need.
In short, a lot can be written about this, but I still hope for a political solution to this situation.

I really hope it doesn't come to war. It's beginning to look a lot like the "cold war" of East v. West now that China is having their say too.
Perhaps the attention that the US in particular has put on the situation will make it harder for Russia to do anything - perhaps it will antagonise them into doing something.
I hope for your sake that everybody shuts up and leaves you alone.

I do not want to tire you any more with conversations on this topic, but it seems that we are allies now. I wonder how your citizens feel about this? I think they are not happy :)

It's very hard to know - it's not something that is really spoken about with our Prime Minister repeatedly breaking the law and lying to people. Our media has painted Russia as "the enemy" for as long as I can remember so "your enemy's enemy is your friend" makes the Ukraine very much our friend.
