Finca Vigía, where the immortal classic The Old Man and the Sea was written.
Lonely Planet describes Cuba as “a prince dressed in the rags of poverty, trapped in the past.”
The first stop in Cuba is undoubtedly Havana, the capital city of Cuba, the largest city in the West Indies, and one of the best-preserved cities in the Americas in terms of historical heritage.
In Havana, the first stop is the famous writer Hemingway’s former residence, Finca Vigía, also known as "The Watchtower". Hemingway's immortal work The Old Man and the Sea was written here.
With flowers blooming and the wind blowing, the garden filled with greenery, there are only a few photos to prove that Hemingway once lived here.
From 1939 to 1960, he lived here for over 20 years. At that time, Hemingway’s life in Cuba was still luxurious, with a large garden, swimming pool, and an excellent view.
Today, Hemingway's former home gives off a sense of abandonment.
The swimming pool is covered with fallen leaves, and the yacht Hemingway once used for fishing is quietly docked.
What’s particularly special is that next to the swimming pool are the graves of Hemingway’s beloved cats, named BlACK, NEGRITA, LINDA, and NERON. Each cat has its own separate grave.
After Hemingway’s suicide in the U.S. in 1961, his wife donated the house to the Cuban government, and it has since been turned into a museum, housing a large collection of the famous American writer's books, manuscripts, and other items.
The house includes the living room, bedroom, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, two of his studies, and his children's bedroom, but sadly, these can only be viewed through glass windows.
The entire Hemingway home has not been heavily commercialized and has retained its original appearance.
Since it was during the local New Year holidays, there were not many tourists.
As I looked at the flowers fallen on the hallway floor, I imagined whether he too might have stood there as I did?
