Hello Steemit,
Do you like sweet potatoes? I do, but even if you don't want to eat them, did you know that they make a really pretty house plant and also, they are very easy to grow.
We all know the health benefits of eating the humble sweet potato - especially if you are trying to cut out the carbs, but there is another delightful way of enjoying these beneficial plants.
Some weeks ago, I was at a friends house and noticed that there was a sweet potato amongst her veggies that had started to sprout.
This took me back to a time years ago when I decided to take a sprouted sweet potato and turn it into an indoor plant. I explained this to my friend, who then decided to give it a try - the image says it all!
This is how you do it:
Take a sprouting sweet potato and place it in a container which is filled with water, - preferably a glass one, -have the base of the potato touching into the water and the sprouting bits out of the water.
Place the container in a well lit area and wait.
Within a very short time the sprouting bits will form beautiful green leaves and roots will form at the bottom. The plant grows very fast and in next to no time you will have a very beautiful indoor plant that can be trained to vine upwards or trail downwards.
You can add more water into the container as it grows.
This is a wonderful fun thing to do with your kids as the growth is rapid and the result is a very pretty plant that just goes on and on.
