Loggerhead turtle Australia

So I have recently returned from another trip to the most southern point of the Great Barrier Reef - Lady Elliott island.

It is turtle nesting season so the water was full of different species of sea turtles.

So I would like to share with you some shots I got of this one logger head turtle in particular.

This trio I had with me my DJI action 4 camera.
And man it was alot of fun taking snaps under the water.

I am still working out this camera. Like distance from subject to get a nice undistorted shot due to the fish eye.

But adding all the elements together, snorkeling while diving down and trying to get a good shot of a moving turtle is a bit tricky but man it's so much fun.

Now this logger head is a local at the island and is named Elvis.

Elvis is very noticeable due to the large chunk taken out of his shell at the back.

There is a bit of speculation as to why he is missing the large piece of shell.

One theory is it could have been from a bit of fishing line the got caught on his shell when he was little and it cut the circulation of his shell and it fell off.

The other theory is that he was attacked by a shark and lived to tell the tale.

None the less this logger head was keen for a quick photo shot with me before he headed back into his little turtle home under the coral.

Loggerhead turtle are easily identified by their thick necks and head that looks like a log.

The top of their shell is heart shaped which is another distinguished feature of the loggerhead.

Loggerhead turtle are omnivorous but feed mainly on invertebrates at the bottom of the ocean like crabs etc.

It was so cool to just hang out in the water with this guy!
