Imaginarios: "Canasta de flores", de Rachel Ruysch

Greta Van Patel olió una de las flores que acababa de comprar en el mercadillo. Su fragancia era fresca, con un dulzor que la transportaba a su infancia, cuando su madre solía prepararle un té de flores antes de dormir. No recordaba bien el sabor, pero estaba segura de que tenía el mismo olor que la flor.

Sonrió quedamente mientras devolvía la flor a su cesta; colocándose la capucha, la joven salió del mercadillo y se mezcló entre la algarabía callejera de una mañana de 1701.

Greta Van Patel smelled one of the flowers she had just bought at the flea market. Its fragrance was fresh, with a sweetness that took her back to her childhood, when her mother used to make her a flower tea before bed. She didn't quite remember the taste, but she was sure that she had the same smell as the flower.

She smiled quietly as she returned the flower to the basket; pulling her hood up, the young woman left the flea market and mingled with the street hubbub of a morning in 1701.

Canasta de flores es una obra pictórica elaborada en 1711 por la ilustradora botánica, pintora y dibujante neerlandesa Rachel Ruysch, una de las figuras más importantes del género botánico en los años posteriores a la Edad de Oro Neerlandesa (1575 - 1675).

Uno de los aspectos más interesantes de esta obra es la forma tan detallada con la que ella describe, a través de la forma y el color, la belleza de las flores que están dentro del canasto; el fondo oscuro realza con naturalidad las flores del canasto, transmitiendo al espectador una sensación de frescura y deleitando su imaginación sobre la mezcla de olores que surgirían de sus pétalos.

Basket of flowers is a painting made in 1711 byDutch botanical illustrator, painter and draftsman Rachel Ruysch, one of the most importante figures of the botanical genre in the years after the Dutch Golden Age (1575 - 1675).

One of the most interesting aspects of this work is the detailed way in which she describes, through shape and color, the beauty of the flowers that are inside the basket; the dark background naturally enhances the flowers in the basket, giving the viewer a feeling of freshness and delighting her imagination about the mix of scents that would emerge from her petals.
