Imaginarios: "El Claustro, Taormina", de Peder Mørk Mønsted

El inspector José María Domínguez Della Schiava contempló con nostalgia el jardín del Convento de San Ignacio; con nostalgia se acordó del jardín de sus abuelos paternos, quienes vivían en Granada, España, con sus bellos arcos estilo arabesco, las rosas creciendo en los alrededores de la fuente y la pequeña cruz en la entrada de la casa. Parecía que estaba ahí, de vuelta al lugar feliz de la infancia, salvo que el ambiente era más solemne, con un grupo de hombres ataviados con sayos y cuerdas como sus habitantes.

Con un suspiro, tomó su libreta de notas y repasó las preguntas que le haría al Padre Superior sobre los últimos incidentes que rodeaban al convento. Se sospechaba que aquel lugar albergaba a un conocido criminal buscado por la justicia desde hace décadas; sin embargo, era posible de que se trate de una pista falsa, por lo que no se hacía falsas esperanzas.

Inspector José María Domínguez Della Schiava looked longingly at the garden of the Convent of Saint Ignatius in Palermo; wistfully he remembered the garden of his paternal grandparents, who lived in Granada, Spain, with its beautiful arabesque style arches, the roses growing around the fountain and the small cross at the entrance of the house. He seemed like he was there, back to the happy place of childhood, except that the atmosphere was more solemn, with a group of men dressed in robes and ropes like its inhabitants.

With a sigh, he picked up his notebook and reviewed the questions she would ask the Father Superior about the latest incidents surrounding the convent. It was suspected that this place housed a well-known criminal wanted by justice for decades; however, it was possible that it was a false lead, so he didn't get false hopes.

Sobre la obra

El Claustro, Taormina es una obra pictórica realizada en 1885 por el pintor danés Peder Mørk Mønsted, un importante exponente del realismo en Dinamarca. La pintura se encuentra actualmente en una colección privada.

En la presente obra podemos notar un ambiente cotidiano, con los dos frailes al fondo charlando sobre algún tema en concreto; las plantas y la tela rojiblanca colgada en el lado derecho del paisaje le otorgan un aire doméstico. A juzgar por el estado de las plantas, es posible que fuera un día de verano o de otoño; quizás sea un día muy caluroso en Taormina, ciudad donde se ubica el convento.

On the artwork

The Cloister, Taormina, is a painting made in 1885 by the Danish painter Peder Mørk Mønsted, an important exponent of the Realism in Denmark. The painting is currently on a private collection.

In the present artwork we can notice a daily environment, with the two friars in the background chatting about a specific topic; the plants and the red and white cloth hanging on the right side of the landscape give it a domestic air. Judging by the state of the plants, it may have been a summer or fall day; it may be a very hot day in Taormina, the city where the convent is located.
