The Search for John Marston | Arthur Morgan's Untold Adventures, Part 3

Two days ago, one of our gang members, John, went missing during a scouting mission. And honestly, it wasn’t the first time.

Throughout his entire life John proved himself to be a risk-taking person who frequently found himself in dangerous situations. Despite his dangerous behavior he had some way of making it through each situation.

That’s why we weren’t too worried at first—we figured he’d show up eventually but each hour brought more worry to Abigail because she was his wife.

“Your John will be fine,” I reassured her.

“But he ain’t been seen in two...” she started, before pausing briefly, taking a shaky breath. “...two days.” Her voice was filled with worry and desperation.

Sensing her distress, Hosea turned to me. “Arthur, take Javier with you and go find him.”

I sighed. I really didn’t feel like going out in this storm, but then I glanced over at John’s young son, sitting there quietly, looking heartbroken. That was all the reason I needed. I nodded. “Alright, let’s go.”

I glanced at Javier while we rode through the heavy snowfall. Javier told me “The last we heard he was traveling toward the river.”

A little further along, we spotted a thin trail of smoke rising in the distance.

“That might be him,” Javier guessed.

“Or it could be the O’Driscoll boys,” I muttered.

Javier stopped riding his mount before he began inspecting the ground. The fresh smoke in the air indicated that someone had been present at this location not too long ago.

Javier moved ahead and directed my attention to the tracks leading forward. “We should follow them.”

As we tracked John’s path, we came across something lying in the snow.

When we got closer, our stomachs dropped—it was John’s horse. The poor thing was covered in blood, frozen solid.

Fear crept over us. If his horse was in this state, then John was either dead or badly wounded.

We dismounted immediately, knowing he couldn’t have gone far in this condition.

As we trudged through the deep snow, we started calling out.

“John!”

“John! Can you hear us?”

Suddenly, through the howling wind, we heard a faint, painful voice.

“Over here!”

We rushed towards the sound and found John, barely clinging to life. He was in terrible shape.

“Don’t die on me just yet, cowboy,” I muttered, hauling him onto my shoulders. We turned back towards our horses, but our troubles weren’t over yet.

That’s when we heard it—wolves howling nearby.

“I’ll distract them. Get John to the horses,” I told Javier, handing John over and pulling out my shotgun.

As Javier and John moved away from me, I fired a shot, drawing the wolves towards me.

Three wolves charged straight at me. I took down two with precise shots, but the third darted off into the distance. I didn’t want to chase it.

I turned and sprinted towards Javier, who had just secured John on the horse.

“We need to get out of here fast,” Javier said. “They’ll be back.”

And sure enough, four more wolves appeared, chasing after us.

Firing from horseback was no easy feat, but after a few tense moments, I managed to take them down. Even so, we knew we had to lose our trail, or more would come.

Javier had a smart idea—we rode through a nearby river to wash away our scent. It was freezing, but it worked.

After a grueling ride through the storm, we finally made it back to camp. Abigail ran to us, tears in her eyes, thanking us over and over.

I then turned to Hosea, still catching my breath. “How much longer are we gonna stay in this place?”

Hosea, watching John being helped inside, sighed.

“When the weather breaks, we head east.”

I frowned. “East???”

(To be continued...)

Disclaimer

Arthur Morgan and the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 might be fictional creations by Rockstar Games, but my love for this game? 100% real. This is a new kind of adventure I wanted to bring to Steemit. I’m narrating the story of RDR2 from the perspective of its protagonist, Arthur Morgan, offering a fresh and immersive take on his journey. Rather than directly copying the game’s dialogues, I’m weaving Arthur’s emotions and experiences into a creative and fictional retelling. You can also experience this story in a cinematic way. I play the game, record my gameplay, edit the footage in the best possible way, and upload it to my YouTube channel. This way, after reading each story episode, you can watch it unfold like a movie.
