Today was the annual World Labyrinth Day.
I have mentioned Labyrinths here in the past, in part because we have one in our backyard, and in part because I use it as a teaching tool during counseling sessions.
Yesterday, @denmarkguy finished trimming and mowing
Because we do have our own labyrinth, we tend to be part of this annual event by opening up our garden for others to visit and walk our labyrinth.
A Labyrinth is not the same thing as a maze!
Mazes are more like a puzzle that have to be solved, intend to have multiple entrances and exits as well as paths end blindly, and you have to find a “solution.”
Labyrinths are a single path that leads from a single opening along twists and turns to end up at the center of the labyrinth. You simply followed the path and there's nothing to ”solve,” and eventually you end up in the center.
We put out some chairs and refreshments
This was the first time we have had more than a couple of people at our house since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mind you, this was an outdoor event then we observed appropriate social distancing.
The reason I like to use labyrinths in my counseling practice is that the path of the labyrinth is very much like life itself. There are twists and turns, but you generally start with a single starting point, and you end up at a single destination.
Whereas we’re generally pretty private people, it was nice to open up our space for visitors for a change. It wasn't as if we attracted a large crowd; in the course of the afternoon we had maybe a dozen people visit.
A few people trickling through to walk the labyrinth
Aside from having people to visit, we also had a 15 minute time slot in a worldwide simulcast from labyrinths around the world all shared via a very very large online Zoom meeting.
Well, I'm going to keep this as a fairly short post today. This isn't exactly what I post everyday but I thought it would be interesting to share. I'll return to "normal" content tomorrow!
Thanks for stopping by and Bright Blessings to all!
