As a minister and counselor, I sometimes have a unique finger on the "pulse" of the world because clients come to me, sharing some of the things that trouble them the most.
For the longest time — several years; even close to a decade — I've noticed the increasing "head space" taken up by fears and anxieties.
Coming immediately on the heels of two years of worries about the pandemic, the current unrest in Ukraine is not making the situation any better. In the past week alone, I've had no less than four people tell me that they are worried that the whole planet will soon destroy itself in a nuclear fireball initiated by the Russia-Ukraine war.
It's not easy to soothe people's frayed nerves, these days. We can just "forget" these things or "get over" them because we live in a world where the information and news is every-present and always in our faces.
What can we do?
Few in the mental health field were actually trained to handle existential fears and anxieties over wars and potential apocalypses.
At best, what we can do is try to focus more of our attention on local things we may have a little more power to influence. Do something for yourself, to improve your own life, today.
Relax with a cup of tea. Read a book. Take your dog for a walk. Watch a favorite old movie. Bake cookies. Work in your garden. Take up a hobby. Clean out a closet.
And then give yourself credit for having accomplished something positive!
Ultimately, we have no control over what more or less megalomaniac world leaders may set in motion. Worrying about the possibilities of what they might do is a bit like making payments on a loan that may never come due.
So do little things, at home, for yourself. Because at least you can do something positive, there!

It is true many people need a psychological support, there are a lot of different event happening around the world. Some people lucky having close relatives, friends or psychological professional support which is very important on any stage.

Perhaps part of the problem in our world is that even though we have "social" media, people are actually being less and less social, and have fewer and fewer friends they can just hang out with, for mutual support. And the whole pandemic thing certainly hasn't helped.
