The cave of Sa Figuera Borda (the barren fig tree in the local language) is located on the west coast of the island of Ibiza. It is a very curious geological phenomenon since, due to the characteristics of the terrain, the sea water has been eroding the two parts of the small rocky hill that forms it, making it possible to see both sides of the sea that surrounds it. This phenomenon has been exploited for centuries by the small local fishermen who found the ideal place to build their huts as a shelter for their fishing boats.
The complex is part of the physical and cultural landscape of the island, and has been the subject of studies and geological work by institutions. As part of this work, cultural visits are sometimes organised to explain the peculiarities of the area to those interested, and so it was that a few of us gathered to have an expert geologist explain the phenomenon to us.

And finally, a word of warning for "absent-minded" visitors:
Green area, keep it clean, clean of litter, cigarettes and plastics.

It sounds like a fascinating geological phenomenon! The cave of Sa Figuera Borda, eroded by sea water and revealing both sides of the surrounding sea, creates a unique and picturesque landscape. . It's wonderful when natural formations not only captivate us with their beauty but also provide insights into the Earth's geological processes.
