Very timely post. I recently fell victim to a phishing airdrop scam and lost control of my account for about 2 1/2 weeks. Luckily Steemit was able to recover my account for me. I was sick to my stomach for quite a while. And I lost about 1/4th of my holdings. But back in business and lessons learned, the hard way.

Please tell us more details to understand how these phishing scams work, What kind of airdrop? Did you give your private key?

Someone replied to a comment on a post of mine. It was to the popular APPICS community. Saying APPICS had an airdrop. I was super stupid and wasn't paying attention. When you clicked on the link you needed to log in. Unfortunately, my login used to be a private key. So they stole it and changed them and locked me out. If I was thinking I would have done more research. I think I was in a hurry that day doing something else, so didn't pay much attention to it.

It was an owner key, I think. It was whatever I had set up years ago when I opened the account. Again, I wasn't paying attention, haha. So they logged in with my key and changed everything. So I had to contact Steemit to recover my account. It took them a few weeks, but it worked.

Buen post amigo, también habría que dejar claro que haciendo PowerUp es más difícil que te roben tus tokens ya que necesitarían una semana desde que te hacen PowerDown hasta que tienen disponibles esos tokens. Es una buena manera de mantener tus cripto a salvo siempre y cuando no las necesites.

How can this be possible? I do not understand ... The steem passwords are very complicated with many numbers and letters.

I wonder can the victims contact to binace and find out who stole their assets? I guess it will be easy with the memo.

I do not hold any liquid crypto in my wallet but this is very disconcerting and definitely not so good for the reputation of steem.

Hi @skywaystelios

If someone has obtained your posting key that can be done via a third-party app, it is entirely possible that they can use your key to vote on other accounts. [They will then steal upvote from you]
Or that the posting key has been used in the memo for example to or in bitrex, it can be intercepted by dishonest people

That is a disturbingly long list of hacked accounts @xpilar, and thanks for bringing this up.

I shall go check my permissions... sadly, I have probably forgotten which dApps I previously allowed, as I am sure many other people have, as well.

I have to say this is most concerning to see all these accounts that are being exploited. It sucks alot of people left Steemit and havent came back yet. Thanks so much for this informative post. Its sad and disheartening how these perpetrators of these crimes are neglected. I believe strict actions can and should be taken on these people. This is a little bit personal for me because I've been a victim of this,here on steemit. My account was hacked and my wallet was totally invaded and my funds transferred to some specific accounts.i even made a post about this,but no actions on taken on those actions. It was a bitter sad.

From the transfer transactions detail, looks like the Active key is leaked.
Revoke is not enough, users need to change the password ASAP after the revoke done.
