Old town of Poreč, Istria (Croatia)
The old town of Poreč in Istria (Croatia) has preserved the street layout characteristic of the old Roman castrum. Decumanus and Cardo Maximus streets still have their original appearance. The town was surrounded with walls for centuries, and two of the towers still remained in place.
Entrance to The Euphrasian Basilica
When you visit Poreč, a must see spot is The Euphrasian Basilica, which originates from the 5th/6th century. It's listed on the UNESCO world cultural and heritage list.
In addition to the basilica, the complex of sacral buildings includes the atrium, the baptistery, the bishop's palace plus the remains of mosaics and sacred buildings from the 3rd, 4th and 5th centuries.
The best time to visit old town of Poreč is probably outside the summer tourist season, because streets during that time are overcrowded with travelers.
