♤ Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé ♤
"In my dreams she listens, and still loves me afterwards. But I know dreams are dangerous, they give me too much false hope."
A few days back, I was itching for a fast-paced suspense read and realised I had Ace of Spades' e-book saved. Few pages in and I was afraid it would turn out to be yet another high school drama where mean girls compete for popularity and belittle everyone else. I was wrong. As the story started unfolding, I was left dumbfounded with such mind-boggling revelations. I ended up finishing it in two days because it was just THAT good!
But what is it about?
The plot revolves around two students, Chiamaka and Devon, who study at this elite private academy, Niveus High. While Chiamaka comes from an affluent background, Devon’s family finds it difficult to meet their ends. The only way Devon could afford such a prestigious school was through scholarship, which made him inferior among the rich kids.
Now, it’s their senior year and their lives are about to entirely change when an anonymous texter, Aces, started revealing all their deep dark secrets. Secrets that could ruin their dream university prospects. But the question arises, why them? Chiamaka and Devon have nothing in common. Neither friends nor enemies; they are like two ends of a pole. But for some reason, Aces is after them.
Every chapter will keep you at the edge of your seat because there’s much more to Aces than you can theorise. I highly recommend everyone to pick this up not only to enjoy a good book but to enlighten and familiarise themselves with the social issues this page-turner deals with.
