The Odemimom Cultural Festival 2021 @liams1

Hello Steemites and my fellow community mates🙃🙃 if you had time to read my previous post I was Erring the plights of the Students in Federal University Otuoke 😔😔, well I have to navigate my pen to a festive event which began from the 26th day of October and ended today the 31st day of October. Before I proceed I wish you all a blessed new month ahead.

Culture is man's way of life and all over the world Culture is of essential importance. From Africa, Asia, America, Europe, Australia etc. has a significant uniformity called Culture. Although, most cultural practices are termed babaric due to its involvement with Blood and fetish rituals. Here is a case study of the beauty in Cultural heritage The Odemimom Cultural Festival which occurs annually in Otuoke a community in Bayelsa State.

It features Music, dancing,beach party, old-school Odemimom Masquerade play and Pageantry.

The Odemimom Masquerade

The Odemimom Masquerade display takes place on the Saturday which is always the last Saturday of October. It comes out from the Otuoke river route which links to other communities and farms, carried in a boat to land. Villagers and strangers who are interested in playing with the masquerade fortify themselves before the masquerade arrives.
As the Odemimom Masquerade gets to land it's been given a matchet which he uses to cut any one playing with it. The fun continues as people get cut while some the matchet bounces and they shout a Local slang Odeshi Dey Work. The play continues till evening when the masquerade goes back through the river. What a nice experience.
The Odemimom festival ends with a beauty Pageantry where they decide the new Miss. Otuoke.
