Highlighting Community Rules / Visibility of Muted Posts

Dear Steemit Team, dear developers!

First of all, let me tell you that I really appreciate your advancement of moderated communities. These communities are a very good way to bring some order into the fantastic, but somewhat chaotic diversity of the overall Steemit. Thanks for supporting diverse communities, this will soon lead to a growth of these groups as independent from you as possible.

About four months ago we started a small language based community. Our main goal was to actively filter out quality content from a large number of daily (spam) posts. We want to actively collect the German-language articles of those authors who are serious about Steem, are interested in a common growth and put effort into it.
To implement this (and to make the moderators' work easier) we have given some guidelines in publications and developed rules.

The workload of the moderators is high, even in a very small community, if they are serious about their task. We have recognized recurring problems during our work and would like to make suggestions here on how the community moderators could possibly be made a lot of discussion work easier.

Rules

We have rules, we even point this out to the users in the short description of our community (at this I already feel very rude, because - a bit annoyed - I had to become very clear).
Nevertheless, several posts pop up every week that are not compliant with the rules. The users simply did not read the rules before posting. However, most of the time this is not pure ignorance, but the users did not notice the rules.

Problem

Rules and description of a community are both not displayed in every browser. On mobile, in my experience, they do not appear at all.

Suggested solution
  • Make rules visible in every browser - maybe at the same position as the short description. OR
  • Integrate a button next to "Subscribe" and "Post" that says "Rules" and leads to the rulebook (if any).

Mute

The mute function is a good tool to keep a community "clean" in terms of compliance. We have often muted posts (fortunately no users yet). We had a good conscience, because we thought that the article is no longer visible in the community, but still voteable by followers. Unfortunately, the affected users were mostly not amused at all. I can understand that for several reasons.

Problem 1

An article that is muted in the community is completely invisible there - that's fine. But in the author's blog it is also marked as muted. That's not nice if it's actually a good post that just doesn't fit into a particular moderated community.

Suggested solution
  • A mute only applies to the moderated community where the article was made invisible. Outside the community, i.e. on the blog, the text is visible like all others.
Problem 2

When you click on the muted article, you get a note that says "This post was hidden due to low ratings." This is neither nice nor fair, because it implies that the article has been flagged. It hurts and causes bad vibes. After all, it's not true. No "low ratings", no "flags", just an article that doesn't fit into a certain community for reasons.

Suggested solution
  • Differentiate the notes when sharing why an article is not shown. When moderators mute an article, they must provide a reason.
    You can use this.

Editing

Sometimes mistakes happen by accident. A user is a member of several communities and unintentionally posts in the "wrong" one, because the frontend has specified it and the author does not check his entries before publishing. Or a user forgets to post from the community feature, uses the very general Steemit publishing function. Then there is no return in both cases.

Problem

You can't get in or out of a community after publishing your post because you can't change the first hashtag when editing.

Suggested solution
  • Make it possible to change the first hashtag as well, like it is already possible for all following hashtags.

I have no idea at all about programming and developing, so I don't know how difficult it might be to implement our suggestions. However, they might be constructive enough to be worth thinking about. Thanks for that!

Thank you for the feedback and suggestions @chriddi.

Hello my dear @steemcurator01 Sir, Greetings and my respects. I am sincerely sorry that you have never been commented on like this. I invite you to visit my blogs. I have not received any support from you for the last one month. I am a university student and my financial situation is very bad. I am studying in my university with the money earned on the platform. At present my father's shop is also closed due to the Corona epidemic, which has made the condition of the bad family very bad. I have received your support only twice since I came to this platform. I am compelled to mention and comment on you. I am sincerely sorry for this but I need your help so I am commenting. I hope to get some support from you. Thank you. If something goes wrong with me, forgiveness will look beautiful.

Sinnvolle Vorschläge die Du hier machst um das Miteinander und das Verständnis zu verbessern ich hätte mich gefreut diesen Post auch auf Deutsch zu lesen, in deutsch-unplugged !

Danke... :-)
Weißt du was?

This is already the quintessence of what we have been debating over the last weeks... Good points and even better suggestions (although I have no idea of the effort and complexity that would be involved in implementation - but I consider it necessary and purposeful).

Very much looking forward to positive effects!

Thank you... :-)
Yes, this post is long overdue. I hope it resonates in the right place.
You know, I'm getting very tired. Well, of course you can't force anyone to "feel" community, but slowly it's time for the spirit to take hold a bit.... ;-)
Keep at it!
Thanks for your support,
Chriddi

We would like to be part of this community, do you have discord?

No, we do not have a Discord server. Everything we discuss regarding the community takes place on the blockchain, because we want transparency.

I think you should find a community that suits you better. If you take a closer look at our rules and posting criteria, you will come to the same conclusion.

Thanks for asking though,
regards @chriddi
