Writer is My Dream Job

When we were young, when we were in elementary school, we were often asked: what do you want to be when you grow up? The answers of the children who were still innocent varied. However, generally they will answer: want to become teachers, doctors and pilots. I don't know why these three professions are chosen by many children.

I don't remember what I said at the time. As a child who lives in remote villages, I do not dare to have dreams. When I was little, I only knew how to catch shrimp and crabs. Every school holiday, I spend more time at the pond. Kids my age are like that too. Only in the afternoon we crowded the fields and played ball.

When I was in junior high school, I just dared to have a dream. And, my goals are completely different from those of the children I've heard of. I don't aspire to be a teacher, doctor or pilot. I just want to be a writer. This desire began to fill my mind after I fell in love with books and newspapers. "Being a writer must be cool," I thought at the time.

Since then, I started to pursue my dream of becoming a writer. I bought a "double folio" notebook and started writing articles and short stories on it. My interest in reading books, magazines and newspapers began to grow. The picture story books in my school library are voraciously devoured, as are opinion writings in the morning paper. I also started to get acquainted with Anita Cemerlang magazine which contains short stories.

The notebook "double folio" began to contain notes and writing. These writings are rarely completed. Apparently, writing is not as easy as I thought. However, I never gave up. Some say that the more often we write, the more our vocabulary will continue to grow, and we will be more fluent when expressing ideas in written form. That's what I then did.

The Sniper film had distorted my ideals. I don't remember how I got to watch the movie. After watching Sniper, I wanted to become a sniper like Tom Berenger, the actor who played Thomas Beckett in the film. It seems like being a sniper is really cool. We can shoot people without being noticed.

Being a sniper also makes us more focused, calm, and mysterious. We become a dangerous figure but rarely realized by the enemy. Our senses also become more trained and sensitive to the situation. We may enjoy this sniper profession more than other professions, although it is a little dangerous. Dangerous things can indeed make us more excited.

Recently, my dream job changed again. I began to lose interest in being a writer or a sniper. You see, I've never really been a writer let alone a sniper. In my life, I've only held a rifle three times. It's also not a weapon used by a sniper, but an assault rifle.

Now, I want to be a programmer who plays with weird codes. This desire began when I became interested in becoming a website builder and became familiar with WordPress, a content management system that is widely used to create a website. I regret that I didn't choose to major in informatics engineering. In fact, if I had studied informatics engineering in the past, maybe my life path would have changed.

In essence, now I am more interested in work related to the digital world, programming or coding. However, because I did not have adequate basic knowledge, I was overwhelmed. Becoming a programmer is not as easy as I thought. As a result, I began to dream of becoming a writer again. This is a childhood dream job. But I doubt it. Can I become a writer?

Hi @acehpungo. I tapped your entry link because it was the last one in the comments section and I am so glad I did.

If your book has an English adaptation, I would love to read it.

I admire your story and how you have transitioned, with reality in mind. After reading this lovely piece, I truly feel like you can do whatever you set out to do.

I love your way with words. It's so clear and simple and natural and flowy. Your childhood may have robbed you of opportunities like studying informatics early on but I think you have grown very nicely.

Your words tell it all. I wish you luck out there and hope you smash through this dream unapologetically.

Yours truly,
Fellow Steemian.
