The end of an era precipitating a new one

Lionel Messi has played for FC barcelona for 21 years and it has always been the club of his life, it has always been his dream to play at FC Barcelona and for him, it was a dream come through. While Messi was playing his football in Argentina, he had a deformity. At the time, he was just 13 years of age and FC Barcelona were the only football club in the world willing to cater for his medical bill and so therefore he signed for the club. Everyone always thought Messi wasn’t up to the task considering his smallish body and structure so the coaches always advised the other players take it easy on him. It didn’t take too long before they realized he was a special kid and his smallish body was no barrier to success. Messi’s innate skill and talent caught the attention of the whole world and whether you are a Barcelona fan or not, you crave to watch him play every weekend, many called him an alien. Ray Hudson once said >God wanted to play football, so he sent down Messi.

Lionel Messi and Barcelona have achieved so much in the footballing world, this is immeasurable. However, just recently, these two parties had to part ways. What a catastrophe, this shocked the footballing world with we Barcelona fans as well as FC Barcelona and Messi at the receiving end. We couldn’t process the news and I personally thought it was just another story from media, they aren’t reliable at times. It didn’t take too long for me to realize it was all real, we are still in shock. Every journey has an end and what we pray for is always a happy ending which wasn’t so with Messi.There was no proper farewell ceromony with fans in the stadium chanting his name, how wonderful that would have been. That would have been the least the club could do but Covid19 would not permit.

At his press conference, these were his words “i’m not ready to leave”. I almost cried, Messi cried, it was an emotional moment for everyone. He admitted how he had wanted to leave last season but it didn’t workout, at the time he knew what he wanted to say but right now he wants to stay and doesn’t know what to say, shedding tears. After the press conference he said his good byes to his team mates and that was it, just like that. We have lost an irreplaceable player.

It was evident Messi’s next move would be to PSG. Apparently the deal has been finalized on a two year contract. We wish him the best of luck as Barcelona fans and may he achieve more with PSG. The most interesting thing about this move is his reunion with Neymar, a very good friend of Messi and they have been in touch ever since Neymar left Barcelona and he (Neymar) has been key to Messi signing a contract with PSG. After a sad departure it was all smiles again.
