Greetings to all and sundry,
It is another beautiful day today and it is a pleasure and a privilege to have this opportunity to come your way once again with another of our lessons as we always do. For today we would be having another ocular health talk and our issue would be focusing on one of the most common conditions you may come across in the Ghanaian Eye Unit.
Allergy of the eyes, is highly common and 8 out of 10 people that may present it to the hospital or clinic would have it as their main condition or disturbance or issue, whichever you may want to put it but that's the short of the whole story. And so what is allergic to the eye and what can we do for ourselves?
Allergy to the Eye
There are many things out there in the world that our systems react to and one of such systems is our ocular or visual system. The eye, like all organs, reacts to certain stimuli in our environment and when this happens, our eyes start to itch and most people would end up rubbing the eye.
This is an allergy of the eye, It is easy to diagnose however treating it can be a headache for both the patient and the doctor. The reason is that when the medication is given and well administered the person may be ok for a while until the thing comes back which on most occasions does.
This happens because patients may be having difficulty finding the stimuli in the environment that may be giving them the troubles; until this is done, the cycle continues. And so it becomes pertinent that we learn to find this and this your optometrist can guide you in that regard by pointing out the most common ones out there.
What you can do
The first thing you can do should you realize you are suffering from this condition or constant rubbing of the eye is to visit your optometrist for a comprehensive eye examination. After which it becomes important that you take your medications seriously. You may be given topical as well as oral depending on the severity of the situation.
Then you will now have to find the stimulus with the help of your OD. If a child the parents would have been vigilant in finding the cause for the betterment of their ward. Please do not rub the eye when it feels itchy instead you can use cool or cold water on it and it should subside and make things much better for you.
Conclusion
We are once again grateful to you for your time and for reading our write-up. We wish you all the best and many thanks to our loved ones and supporters who have been with us all this while. Best of luck and wishes to you all.
Cultivating curiosity for little minds. This is worth a reshare.🤸🏽♂️😎🌷
