The Optometrist

You optometrist would also be directly involved in any referral that may be warranted for your treatment and has multi roles throughout your eye care journey.

The Ophthalmologist is a specialized medical officer after the six year study in school and is the only one within the Eyecare field licensed to perform surgical procedures on a patient in the majority of the world.
Your ophthalmologist may be further specialized in fields such as retina, glaucoma etc and so do not be surprised when your OD refers you to your Ophthalmologist and you end up referred again.
The Optician
He or she is the go to person for all issues pertaining to your visual aids including your glasses or spectacles. The Optician undergoes mostly a 2 year program and supports the eye care industry in the field of lenses
