Greetings to all and sundry,
It is another beautiful day today and it is an absolute pleasure and a great privilege to come your way once again today with more of our lessons on our ocular and general health. For our followers, backers, and supporters we are always grateful for you and we do hope that you are doing amazing.
For what we would be learning or taking a look at today, we would be getting a lesson about a part of the eye which is crucial to light regulation into the eye. This part of the eye may seem insignificant at first look but when you get to understand it you will appreciate the good it does for us as individuals or humans.
The Pupil
The pupil is the dark circular hole that you see in the middle of the colored iris. When you look into someone's eyes you see darkness, this blackness is from the hole which is the pupil in the eye. For those with colored eyes, it is easier to spot or identify the pupil, for those with brown eyes you may need light thrown onto the pupil for proper distinguishing.
The pupil has the basic function of regulating the amount of light that goes into the eye. This is important because too much light into the eye may damage your retina cells which would have a direct effect on your vision. The pupils have muscles that help in its regulation. These are the sphincter muscles and the radial muscles.
Their constriction and relaxation allow the pupillary size to increase or decrease thus cutting off peripheral rays as well as too much light into the eye. In adults, a situation known as senile miosis where the pupils become constricted due to aging helps improve the vision of the aged by cutting off the peripheral rays that may cause glare, especially in patients with cortical cataracts.
Conclusion
And so your pupils do a lot for you in keeping your retinal integrity safe from too much light and as such you ought to appreciate it. It is worth mentioning at this point that a good amount of the thanks ought to also go to the iris because it is the muscles in it that enable the pupillary size to change.
And so that will be our lesson for today, we do hope you enjoyed it and that you have learned a thing or two from it. Thanks for your time and we wish you the very best. Stay safe and have a wwonderful time.
Wow! Thank you so much for the lecture..
I didn't know my pupil played a vital role in my eyes. I didn't even know it was responsible for light regulations..
