Hi everyone,
Today's lesson is to help us to understand and manage dislocations.

Dislocation of bone is an injury to the bone which results in the separation or displacement of one or more bones at a joint or a meeting point.

It normally occurs at joints such as the shoulders, elbows, wrist, hips, and knees. The bones are held together by muscles to keep them in their rightful position. The structures that hold bones together may be damaged when dislocation occurs.

CAUSES OF DISLOCATION

Dislocations are usually caused by a sudden impact to the joints, normally through

  • Falling
  • Trauma
  • Blow

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

  • Severe pain at the site
  • Loss or restricted movement in the joint
  • Swelling
  • The bone is visibly out of place

MANAGEMENT OF DISLOCATION

  • Reassure the victim ( Calm the victim )
  • Splint or bandage around the affected part
  • Apply a cold compress to ease the pain and swelling
  • Carefully handle the casualty to avoid further injury
  • Seek medical attention
CAUTION; Never force displaced bone into its position

Thank you for following through with today's session. I hope you have learned a lot.
The next lesson will be on Knowledge and management of Muscle Cramps and Spasm
