Pandemic On Our Roads.

Economies crushing, business collapsing and the countless deaths recorded globally, the world still do not understand how a medically advanced world is on its knees without being able to mitigate the and find readily solution to the threat poses to mankind survival. The world despite its scientific advancement is still gripping with a paradox that beats imagination. The Media space has been hijacked for newly three years for regular updates on death tolls, vaccines, new precautionary measures from WHO and CDC as well the politics of the virus as well.

Ghana like many other Nations is not immune from the viral disease neither is it isolated when it comes to Covid-19. The public outcry and the measures put in place to ensure that the death toll in Ghana is minimize shows Governments efforts in tackling problems arising from the virus seriously. Government measures it success by the less number of deaths recorded. This means that any measure put in place to curb this menace is laudable and must be celebrated.

However, there is another pandemic on our roads that claims several lives that seems unnoticed or not a priority of the government. This pandemic is the road carnages on our roads. Even though i couldn't get data from the Ghana Road Safety Commission apart from the first quarter, a report i cited by CITI NEWS ROOM indicates the fact that there are more deaths on our roads than the number of lives claimed by the the novel virus. The alarming rate at which lives are perishing on our roads demands the same attention just as the attention caught by the pandemic.

The reason why there's more attention and public education on the pandemic than the carnages on our roads is that, the pandemic affects all sectors of the economy particularly the production sectors thus making economies to nose-dive. But the truth is that, the lives that perish on our roads too are important and must be protected at all cost because the economic prospects of every country is hinged on its citizens. Traders, commuters, drivers, pedestrians are being killed and maimed everyday. Thus, it is about time the State, media and relevant stakeholders turn their attention to the pandemic that is killing people than the novel virus.

I believe a concerted efforts from all these institutions would help reduce the death tolls on our roads.
