Greetings everyone,

Lately, the spirit of volunteerism has been quite lacking. This is mainly because, we usually don't see the benefits of doing so. This has sparked a cycle of selfishness and greed alongside the attitude of each man for himself, God for us all.

We have seen on numerous occasions that people who give and have a habit of others tend to also receive favors from others when they need it. This is usually because people remember the good deeds you have rendered in their tough times and are bound to reciprocate when needed.

Another benefit of this spirit of volunteerism is that it teaches us to be patriotic. Patriotism is simply the act of loving ones country more than themselves or putting one's country above their personal desires. This has to really triumph if we are going to try and remove our homeland from the current mess it is in.

Coming generations have to realize that it is not your feelings or opinions that matter, but rather the state of our nation. This nation was in a certain condition that we came to meet. But regardless of the state we came to find it, we must strive to leave it in a much better state than before.

We can no longer leave a blind eye to a fault we come across or a situation we can do something about. We ought to try and improve upon the given situation even if there is no financial reward in it. That is the meaning of true volunteerism.
