In Ghana, celebration of the dead is a feast sometimes when the person is well to do in society or has reached a certain age above 70 years. Mostly people go there to celebrate the persons achievement.

That was exactly what happened this saturday when the young and old in my vicinity came out of their houses to celebrate the life my landlady.

From her family house to the church, everywhere was packed with seat which were all occupied and those on their feet observing what was going on.

When we got there, we didn't get a place to stay so we stood at a corner looking on. A group of traders came to person some tradition which i had not seen before. They poured hand full of corn on the ground.

For the reason, i had no idea not until i asked someone, who yokd me the woman was head of the maize buyers association so what they did was part of their rituals they person when a member dies. It had no spiritual implications though.

The body was then lifted into an ambulance, straight to the Methodist church where butial service was performed for her and tributes were read.

Afterwards we gave her a place to rest and we came home. In the afternoon we will gather again and recieve visitors to show support. I came home, my stomach was requesting for the money i owed so i had to come hime and find something to eat. Washed down and took a litlle nap.

In the afternoon, we went back to the funeral grounds where people came to show their love and support to the bereaved family.

We lined up while all the family members were seated and spinners and traditiinal music all set giving us wonderful tunes, we greeted the family and they gave us a place to sit.

Water was served that is usual anywhere you go in Ghana. We organise some amount to be donated to the family as part of iur solidarity towards what they have lost in giving our mother a befitting rest.

When that was done we had to leave the scene for other visitors to get a place to sit. I then came home and prepared for activities for the next day.

This was how i spent yesterday burrying and celebrating with the family of my landlady. Hope your day was as good as mine. Stay blessed
