Today i am here to participate and write about this contest. That is to make a post about a culture and the practices that takes place. I am going to talk about one of my favorite cultures.

   NAME OF CULTURE : FIRE FESTIVAL

Yes the name is fire festival. Fire festival is a tribal cultural practice, which is being celebrated annually in the month of august by the people of Tamale, popularly known as Dagombas. The day it occurs vary from time to time. Is it celebrated by the chiefs of Tamale. The chiefs are the ones in charge of it. They allocate safety measures to protect the people. The festival starts at 10pm and ends at 3am.

The name of this culture looks a lil bit hash as many people that hears it for the first time think is about violence, people that sees the pictures of it normally thinks is about violence. If in case you ever had that thought, then take advantage of this and get to learn about the importance and good aspect of this beautiful culture.

 CULTURAL PRACTICES OF FIRE FESTIVAL

The people of will gather at their various chiefs palace for the chief to start everything

• The chief will set the fire for the people. All of them have this long grasses. This is the grass they will use to set the fire and head towards the streets. Each person will rise his or her grass up while singing in celebration and moving towards the streets. They would celebrate to a particular point were there is a tree and they would throw their dried grasses there and continue to sing whiles going home.

• they use knifes, cutlasses, and so many different material. Not to scare people but to appear in way of an art to entertain people. They swipe the knifes on the ground and shout and some more.

• They sing while they move down the street. There are so many songs that they sing in the process. There is a song to when the journey starts and there is a song to when throwing up the dried grasses, and also a song for coming home. They are all so beautiful.

• When they go back home, they head to the chiefs palace again. This time a warm water is thrown at them while they are dancing till everybody departs.
  

    MOTIVE OF FIRE FESTIVAL
  

First of all. This festival is a recap of what has already happened in the past. It it celebrated to remember the lost child of a grate chief that lived back in the days.

The chief had a child who used to love being with his mother a lot. A day came were the chief though his child was with the wife and the wife also thought their child was with the husband. Unfortunately the child was neither with them and had gone lost,

At midnight the chief followed his instincts and decided to go see the child from his wife but they both got to the realization that their child was missing

So the chief organized his people to go in search of the child. He made up a fire and they all brought their dried grasses to also catch the fire for lightening support while they look for him. They sang along the way to bring awareness to the child anywhere he was to avail him self to them.

They walked several miles till they found the boy sitting under a tree. They picked him up and threw their fires on that tree and they sang their way home with a different song. They went back to the chief who gave them warm greetings and gratitude by splashing warm water on them.

Anytime you meet someone who has a bad view of fire festival. You would be in a best position to educate them about it being a happy a victorious festival
