Most times malaria can give the following symptoms to the affected patient. The individual may experience; fever, chills, general feeling of discomfort, headache, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, muscle or joint pain, fatigue, rapid breathing, rapid heart rate, cough. All these symptoms may not occur at once. Most times the individual may experience shivering and chills at the initial stage which most times is followed by high fever and most often followed by sweating and again reverse to normal temperature.
Researches prove that about eighty percent of the Ghanaian population contract malaria each year, however, avoiding water logging around our environment will help curb the spread of malaria. The malaria parasites thrive around environment that accommodate stagnant water. That place is a perfect habitat for the female anopheles mosquito and they blossom alot . The anopheles carries the plasmodia to the unprotected bodies thereby giving them malaria. But if the stagnant water that waits around our environment is distilled, the habitat of the anopheles is destroyed which reduces the spread of malaria.
International efforts on national control in the late fifties and seventies came out that, early diagnosis and treatment of malaria reduces it's spread. Malaria can spread if the individual affected does not receive immediate treatment from a hospital. Malaria has the potency of spreading if the female anopheles mosquito feeds on an infected body and transmits it to an uninfected body. It is common with our Ghanaian setting that few days after a person in the same environment is treated, another person in the same environment contracts malaria.
A careful study in villages and small communities proves that about fifty million pregnant women in villages across the world are exposed to malaria ,but our regularly spraying, closing doors and windows, using creams, and coils and sleeping in treated mosquito nets help curb the speed spread of malaria . The female anopheles does not blossom around environment that is fully medicated. When the doors to the rooms we live in are not exposed for their entry, it prevents them from feeding and infecting. Also when we sleep using mosquito nets, though not comfortable, but it drives them away from our bodies.
To conclude, the spread of malaria can be controlled when our environment we live is kept clean. Laws must be enforced to check homes and the environment from filt and faecal matters. Example; in areas around Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi.Faecal matters around Oduna river, and around big gutters at Circle and Kejetia must be checked by all and sundry. Control of malaria is possible only by converted community efforts. Relying only on government's machinery for the control of this problem will heighten the dangers associated with the spread. All hands must be on deck to check on mosquito prone areas in our country. If the spread of malaria can be controlled, efforts must be put in place to check man(the host) , plasmodium (the agent) and anopheles mosquito (the vector).
If these measures are put in place by all, it will help eradicate this deleterious canker and ameliorate the situation. A big thank you to you all.
