In my humble cottage, in this 21st century , farmers still harvest their maize in the traditional way.
After harvesting in the farm they carry it in sacks and baskets to the house where they gather all at one place.
The whole household now gather around the heap of maize and remove the hops from the corn.
After the removal of the corn hops the maize is left to the mercy of the weather to dry naturally before the grains are finally removed from the the cornstems .
This system of harvesting still exist due to poverty. The inability of the farmers to hire a harvester to do all these work in less than a day is mostly due to lack of finance.
The whole process takes almost a month to harvest about 3 maxi bags of maize. God help us.
