Hi everyone, It' Mariam once again. Today I want to share with you how my day went. Guess what! Today is Saturday and in the community I live in, you either share in someone's joy or in his or her sorrows. Lucky for me I choose the former. I had the opportunity to witness the naming of Adwenpa, my friend Fatima's son at Beposo Methodist Church.
I woke up early to do some cleaning before leaving for the program. I decided to pass by Fati's house just in case she was having a make over so I could have a simple make over too. Luckily for me they were still home. In order not to steal the day by looking more beautiful than the mother, I chose to have a simple make over. Oh yes, a very simple one!
At exactly 8:05, we were a the Church premises with few family members for the commencement of the program. I'm sure you're wondering why the ceremony didn't take place at home instead. Well according to the couple, it was better to have it in church because the presence of God is much felt in there than in the home where evil forces prevail. Well, I couldn't object because it was their opinion and opinions they are like noses. They got theirs and I have mine.
The ceremony began with a powerful prayer the pastor. Afterwards he requested for three items; water, spoon and honey which were presented by the father.
The pastor later told the congregation the purpose of our gathering and delivered his sermon. He later performed the rites by taking him from his father and giving him a teaspoon of water and the a little honey. As he did this he spoke directly to the baby by mentioning his name that if he sees water, he shouldn't hesitate to say it's water and again in life sweet thing like the honey will come his way but he should cope with bad times as well. He later handed the baby to his parents.
Finally, the long awaited name was out! Hmm, but I struggled and continue to struggle in pronouncing Adwenpa's name. His name is Peniel Kofi Dormaa. Wow! Peniel is finally out!
People showered him with gifts and blessings.
I took some photos with the happy couple as well as their relatives before leaving.
Indeed dedicating a child acknowledges God's sovereignty not only on the child but his or her parents as well.
I got home around 3:45 to prepare dinner for my family.
