In the olden days when Nana Nyankopon (God) was so close to man, we used to gather at his feet to listen to the stories that surround our world and our lives and even that of the other dimensions, we learnt about stories of the animals and humans alike, we learnt stories of terrestrial beings and heavenly beings but then Kweku Ananse the crafty spider wanted to have access to all these stories Nana Nyankopon used to tell so he could be the sole owner or have authorship and so one day he just woke up and decided to go and see him about his proposition.
When the crafty spider came to God that he may be made the sole author of all those stories and any other story to come thus in other words God should grant him the knowledge that one would else would be allowed to have, God did agree to give him what he wanted however it came with a condition and the condition was that he was to capture a full grown python, a swarm of bees and leopard all alive and bring them as payment for what he seeks and so he agreed and went on his journey.
First he visited the great python of the forest, when he went there to told him that he and his wife were having arguments as to who is longer whether it be the python of the long bamboo stick in their home and so he has come to confirm, the python agreed to lie by its side that he may measure and the cunning spider took advantage to tie him up to the stick and carry it away. Then there was the bees, he went to where their nest was and poured water all over it shouting that rain coming and will spoil their nest lest they hurry to his gourd which he held out that it may keep them safe and protect them, they run in and he locked it up keep them stuck.
The final animal to be captured was the leopard, and so he dug a whole in the ground along the path of the leopard and covered it up with weed that he may not see, the leopard fell in and whiles crying to help the cunning spider came to his aid and decided to use a rope to save him, he tied the rope to a tree and the leopard tied one to his tail the tree pulled him out but with such force that he became dizzy and so i ananse took him away, with all these gotten he went to Nana Nyankopon for his prize and Nana Nyankopon agreed that he was indeed wise and was worthy of owning all the stories and so from then Ananse became the author of all Ghanaian folktales which why before story references are always made to him.
I hope you learnt some new today from my story, thanks for reading and have nice time.
